Greetings fellow heretics!  We know that Codex: Chaos Space Marines is going to be dropping sometime in 2022, hopefully relatively early on in the year.  Something that used to be quite common on the boards (and that you still see a few factions doing here or there) is "Unit of the Week" articles where each week, Frater break down the utility of different codex entries for the elucidation of all.

While we don't know when exactly we'll see the new codex, I figured I'd get left of the boom and see if anyone is interested in helping write these treatises when the time comes.  There's no obligation of course; I'm just testing the waters.

Let me know!

I'm sure I will opine on them, though I don't think I play enough to have more than a gut feel as to whether a particular unit is good or not, so I don't think I'm knowledgeable enough to take a lead on such a project.

Sure, I'll contribute. I have been doing a write up on our FW stuff, but pushed it back due to the new pts revisions not live yet via CA or other source. May as well wait to drop it with the new dex discussions start.

The UotW series is a real classic on the B&C, a meeting of minds that helps players old and new especially with a new codex or other significant change. The Thousand Sons ones have been great as have the nid ones, good fodder for the grey matter and to get you going with an army.

The topics are not about how the unit is "best", but also how it can be used and opportunities etc - it's not "Best Units of the Week" For less popular units or ones with less great rules (or point costs) it is arguably most useful of all as we discuss limitations and how to get more from them so it's far from something only "better" players can contribute to :smile.: I'm looking forward to seeing what fruit these discussions yield

Id help but I have only had a few games of 8th and yet to play 9th, already it feels like a system Ill need 36433 books and faq's to be able to play. :(

Cant wait to read what you guys write though, then I can stay in the loop.

I'm an experienced player, I'll defo have something to contribute, especially on less popular units that are seen as unplayable. Although I have a good feeling about the new Chaos Codex... I really do.

Oh? Any of those good feelings you can share with us? ;)
There is usually 3 or 4 years between edition updates. That is more than 150 weeks. But a faction don't have as many as 150 different units to discuss. So you need to control the pace. If you really do one unit per week, you will have few to talk about before Xmas.

I know that in the Thousand Suns forum they also do forge world models in theirs (they just did the contemptor) so that could pad it out somewhat.  That said, I don't think we necessarily need to worry about running out as 1) there may be additional models released over the course of the codex (we got at least 6 that were either entirely new or substantially changed so far this codex), 2) if we do that's fine and 3) we can always return to revisit models should changes in rules or point costs warrant such.

Plus, this codex cycle we are starting this quite late, such that we might not get through all the units before the next codex drops.

It's a balance between getting through the units quick enough that the meta doesn't shift dramatically, and you actually get to talk about each unit while they're still relevant in the edition, but slow enough that there's little dead space. In the Tyranids section for example, we started this again with 9th ed, and finished almost exactly as the synaptic link stuff came out, creating further discussion.
