Warcom article on the forthcoming Black Templars animation mentions a mostly Primaris squad (4 specifically Primaris marines, Terminator, Primaris looking techmarine, Chaplain of unknown Primarisness) riding in a Land Raider, most likely a Crusader

So if/when does this translate to the table top?

My guess is they will allow Primaris to ride in vehicles that can take Terminators, Jump Pack, Wulfen models (Am less confident about those sized firstborn going in Primaris vehicles)

Maybe not Gravis or they take the space of 3 models

Have a feeling they wont/wouldnt let regularly armoured/sized marines go in Primaris vehicles

I doubt the animation will translate onto the tabletop, but I could be wrong. There have been loads of lore stories with factions riding in transports they can't access in-game, eg Reivers in Valkyries.

Just read the article, it says that the story is presenting something exceptional:

"A Chaplain, a Terminator, a Techmarine, and four Primaris Space Marines? We hope that Roboute Gulliman isn’t watching because that is certainly not a Codex-compliant squad."

"Yes, Primaris Marines in a Land Raider – that’s how serious their mission is."

So, yeah. Don't think individual stories serve as particularly strong premises for making predictions or inferences about rules on the tabletop. Especially when they've been framed as depicting a rare or exceptional occurrence, like Colonel-Commissar Gaunt, for instance.

There may well have been aesthetic/creative/practical considerations from the animator too?

I wish they'd let Primaris ride in Land Raiders, Black Templars belong in them.

if they did that there’d be very little reason to buy repulsors.

IDK. If I was putting together an army that was a Raven Guard Successor Chapter, like the Raptors and was primarily Primaris with Phobos armour I would definitely buy some Repulsors. I'd probably opt for Grav Tanks over Track Tanks in general actually.

But armies like Black Templars that go in on the Medieval Knight look with lots of Crusader and Bladeguard squads just look a bit weird with Grav Tanks imo.

This topic seems to pop up on a monthly basis in one form or another.

My thoughts on the subject is that the restriction has nothing to do with lore. It has become more and more obvious that Primaris are the eventual replacement of the classic Astartes line. They are keeping the ranges separate by not allowing the same wargear and transports to be shared.

This way, when the eventual Primaris-only codex is released, the Primaris models won't have lost any options or transport based synergies.

To me personally it's not a big issue. Marines can't ride in a Sisters of Battle Rhino either, as an example, so there are plenty of existing limitations on the tabletop that have nothing to do with lore.

Also, I must confess that I have grown to like the Repulsors a lot more than the classic Landraiders. They have superior ground clearance, are better modeled, and are far superior and more useful in the lore. I just wish GW would give them a rule boost and grant them the Fly rule again, or allow them to drop in from reserves like they do in the lore.
