Which Armour Mark do you associate with which legion

It is canon that every legion got every armour mark (so you can model your marines how you like). However, certain armour marks are indelibly linked with certain legions. Some are more open to debate than others. Some are Iconic for some chapters/legions.

 

For me

 

Mark 6: Raven Guard

Mark 5: World Eaters

Mark 3: Iron Warriors, Death Guard, Space Wolves

Mark2: White Scars

Mark 3: Iron Hands because of the Forge World kits.

 

Mark 4: Iron Hands still have the tech to produce suits in 40K.

I actually associate Iron hands with Mark 5 but the art work shows them with a wide variety. I think that was originally after istvaan they took anything they could get, but now who knows.

I would say something along the lines of...

Mark 6: Alpha Legion, Raven Guard.

Mark 5: World Eaters, Salamanders, Iron Hands, Night Lords. 

Mark 4: Ultramarines, Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Thousand Sons, Luna Wolves, Emperors Children. 

Mark 3: Iron Warrions, Imperial Fists, Death Guard, Space Wolves.

Mark 2: White Scars, Word Bearers.

Off the top of my head:

Crusade armour: White Scars

Iron armour: Iron Warriors

Maximus armour: Sons of Horus

Heresy suits: World Eaters

Corvus armour: Raven Guard

Armorum Impetor: Blood Angels.

 

Perhaps that reflects a particular period, but there’s my answer.

As you say no legion looks out of place in any but certain legions I always picture in certain armour but It ranges by date of the crusade but late heresy

 

Crusade Armour - all loyal legions but predominantly White Scars & DA

 

Iron Armour - most legions but predominantly Dark Angels, Iron Warriors, Imperial Fists, Iron Hands, Death Guard, Wolves

 

Maximus - all the traitors except WE but again predominantly Sons of Horus, Emperors children, Alpha legion

 

Heresy - All legions but predominantly the Istvaan legions, World Eaters,

 

Corvus - Raven Guard

I think a lot of people's first impressions of night lords was from Talos and co. He was very much in mk 5, complete with the stuffed helmet, but heresy wise, they were definitely equipped with 4.
