I recently had a nearly 4k collection of Chaos Space Marines (Black Legion) get dumped into my lap. Fact: Getting familiar with the Chaos Space Marines rules has clarified how badly the Dark Angels rules were done this edition. Unit rules ,detachment rules, etc. Just poor overall.

Are they painted?  I love my Black Legion but they were pita to paint.  Hazard stripes on my Iron Warriors were NOTHING compared to all that gold trim.

Ummm no. lol. 2/3 of the collection was built. A couple vehicles and a 10 man raptor squad were all primed with GW Wraithbone, everything else was gray plastic. It belonged to one of my close friends, he had too many collections and  he pretty much gave up on. It is 4060 points. I've built most of the remaining things that were still NIB. I still have a forge fiend, the second venomcrawler, and 6 chaos bikers left to build. I have a thread over in the Heretic Astartes forum talking about it, including a list of everything in the collection.

My Primaris Librarian, Epistolary Castiel of the Risen. I really like using him in my lists but he was just lacking something.

So I came up with this. Now he looks right imo.  Gave him a very Librarian-esque open book atop his backpack powerpcack, and Dark Angels love their hood trims! I'm thinking I might do the same trim along the bottom of his inner robes?

I kit-bashed the book using bits from the old Company Veterans Kit. The Dark Angel chapter icon atop the book is from one of the belt bits where an orb and some iconography dangle from a rope. The pole that the book is mounted on came from one of the backpack icons in that kit that displays the chapter emblem. The great decal on the open pages of the book came from a decal sheet imo worth its weight in gold from Forgottenchapters.eu. I got it and another similar decal sheet off of Etsy a year or two back.

Well ... I forgot his banner lol. I'll paint it tomorrow and reattach it!

I do think this Azrael looks better than the first one I painted on page 2 or 3 of this thread several years ago! That is a good feeling.

Also of note this time my dark green power armor recipe differed. Prior to this second collection I was using the tried and true GW DA method of Caliban Green, Warpstone Glow, and Moot Green. This time I started all of my company Dark Angels with a black primer, then a base coat of Caliban Green (can't give up the O.G.) but then my layers and edge highlights are Army Painter Fanatic greens. See pic. And you can see how each one is the successive step in their green offering at the lower right corner of the bottle.

I wanted to use these colors this time around because I was intrigued by the narrow gap between each color, versus the vast gulf between Caliban Green and Warpstone Glow, and everything from Moot Green lol, for example.

Master of Repetence, Asmodai.

His rules in 10th edition are mediocre at best, but his sculpt is great as well as his lore. He will lead assault intercessors for me.

I fixed that thick gray edge line on the right hip plate btw, and cleaned up the gold chapter icon on the large medallion. It was spilling over on the right side.

Love me some Asmodai.  I love all the DAs named characters but I think the chief of psychopaths is my favorite character in 40K not named Lion El’Jonson.

He looks fantastic.  Great job.

Psychopath lol. I really like the contrast between Asmodai and Sapphon. One is more of a nut, and the other is a rational thinker.

He killed Haarkon Worldclaimer the other day. He earned a paint job lol

On colors I initially started with lots of gold trim on all the iconography but it didn't look right to me, for who that character is. So I went back and redid it all in silver, with GW Runelord Brass, shade (Agrax), and GW Canoptek Alloy as the edging and highlight on the sword hilt and cross guard, and the crusade cross icon he's carrying that dangles on the chain.

So I started noticing that the new Dark Angel decal sheets also come with a smaller section of chapter decals for the Angels of Redemption. It got me thinking. I have a kick a** black power armor slap-chop method (see my Black Templar crusade post, which that collection is now owned by one of my good friends, so I still get to lose to them frequently lol), and I have a liking for the Angels of Vengeance both lore and chapter colors & iconography. The Angels of Redemption both look cool and have a unique lore entry too.

So I went to Etsy and bought a decal sheet for the Angels of Vengeance. My grand plan is to take a few units of my 6.6k collection of Dark Angels and paint them as Angels of Redemption, and Angels of Vengeance. So I will have a couple units from each second founding chapter fighting alongside my majority Dark Angel units! I think they will look very cool on the tabletop! You don't see that too often in people's 40k collection, at least I don't. I'll attach pics of each chapter in question so you know what I'm talking about.

I was quite pleased at thinking of this lol. When you're 50+ you gotta take those victories when you get them!

Edit: I made a mistake. It's the Angels off Redemption that we get decals for on the new Dark Angel decal sheet. Also we get some for the Guardians of the Covenant too! I might have to do a unit of them too?

I painted over the weird shaped data screen. It looks better.

I've also decided with this collection that I'm going to try doing the 4th Company again! I like 3rd company's lore, but I REALLY like the looks of the 4th company's device a lot more plus since it was lost at Cadia their lore is more of a blank slate at the moment. Another motivator is Dark Angel collectors rarely do the 4th it seems? I always see the 5th and 3rd done, and I think a big reason for that is the simplicity of replicating the company emblem on the left knee versus that of the 4th.

Of course I could come crying back here in a month or so saying it was just too difficult again? lol

Interrogator Chaplain Karnak of the 4th Company Dark Angels.

His backpack is magnetized because I often use him with my jump pack assault intercessors. The name Karnak for me goes back to the animated Ultramarines movie years back. At the time I had a collection of Crimson Fists and my painted chaplain (a very OOP chaplain model now,  resin model, the one with the round smooth skull helmet with bolt pistol and crozius) I named Chaplain Karnak.  He had the uncanny ability to do well in my games. So since then every collection's chaplain has been named Karnak. lol. That began 13 years ago.

A challenge with this model is to not overdo the gold. On the GW site, on his product listing, all of his trim is gold. Tons of gold t go on tons of trim. With this guy I wanted some gold trim but not to overdo it.

4th company for the win! These are pretty much the exact reasons I picked them as well :)

The chaplain looks great, love the idea of the magnetised backpack as well
