Sarvis
I saw a post on Reddit regarding marine grav bikes, and it got me thinking. I’m not a huge fan of past or current iterations of normal space marine bikes, and since many marine vehicles are moving to grav tech, I’d like to hear from others; who’d prefer grav bikes over those with tires? Karhedron
I am slightly surprised that Outriders and Invaders were wheeled actually. I was expecting some sort of Grav versions after what we had seen with Repulsors and Impulsors. To be fair, I don't mind either as long as it looks cool. Outriders definitely look cool to me, slightly less sold on Invaders though. Captain Idaho
My honest opinion? GW has done enough damage to the IP by introducing Cawl and his "better than the Emperor's Finest Marines", obliterating the old stagnant technology of a carcass empire rotting from within and replacing it with new and better technology that makes even Eldar blush. Please, have some restraint GW and keep Jetbikes for Custodes and Eldar. Please. derLumpi
Imperial jetbikes should stay in 30k or Custodes only. lansalt
I wish primaris Outrider bikes had more ground clearance and their riders were less rigid. They look like they were designed first as jetbikes and later somebody put wheels on them. At least the old bikes looked like more or less functional machines. Captain Idaho
I know their ground clearance looks bad, but in my head I see the wheels/bike as going up and down on their front forks. Dark Shepherd
I like groundbikes for Marines as its closer to the Medieval in Space origin of 40k. Its slightly dumb but satirical; all this tech everywhere and theyre still looking reverently backwards at fume spewing wheeled vehicles instead of inventing or copying better tech Keeps more of a niche for Custodes and Eldar with their jetbikes Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/372563-what-is-your-opinion-on-grav-bikes/#findComment-5770619 Share on other sites
TheNewman
I own two Marine jetbikes because WS have a pseudo-flying relic bike. I don't use them much. BLACK BLŒ FLY
Space Marines used to have jetbikes so it’s not even a stretch really plus well there is Sammuel… :P Edited December 8, 2021 by Black Blow Fly Dracos, Sarvis and LameBeard 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/372563-what-is-your-opinion-on-grav-bikes/#findComment-5770679 Share on other sites
Captain Idaho
That is true of course. I dunno, I just like the idea of a stagnant technological erosion and Jetbikes and other superior tech from the Heresy disappearing is cool. lansalt
That is true of course. I dunno, I just like the idea of a stagnant technological erosion and Jetbikes and other superior tech from the Heresy disappearing is cool. I think the necessity of GW introducing new vehicles and other tech has retconned that a bit. M36+ saw already several "rediscovered" STCs like the Razorback, Annihilator, Stormraven, SoB Castigator... not to mention all the stuff in hands of the Deathwatch or Custodes. My headcanon is that the Adeptus Mechanicus aren't just crazy self-defeating tech-hoarders with a lot of infighting, they are also stingy on purpose to keep other factions in check. It explains why tech like TDA suits are so rare, while also why they hate Cawl for mass producing legions of astartes grade tech behind their backs. Outriders definitely look cool to me, slightly less sold on Invaders though. I think with the way grav technology is described for Primaris that grav bikes wouldn't make sense. It's basically brute force keeping their vehicles off the ground I'm not sure how well that would scale with bikes. Plus, the fields are supposed to push things away which doesn't really vibe with how marines use bikes (mostly for CC). It's a moot point though between inceptors, ATVs, and outriders the bike roles are pretty established for Primaris at this point. Maybe a chapter like white scars getting something unique is a possibility but I don't expect it. Please. Their IP exists to sell models, and Primaris have sold a ton so while you may feel it's been damaged, I think GW is fine with it. That said Jetbikes IMO need to stay with Custodes, in a lot of ways they're the armies defining feature when compared to other imperium fractions. I don't feel that Custodes have as many easy adds which makes it more important that the things, they have that are unique stay that way. Subtleknife
Personally the new marine stuff should have been grav instead of wheeled imo. A brutish iteration of grav contrasted by the sleek bikes the custodes use. BLACK BLŒ FLY
Seeing they had jetbikes in the past I could certainly see them in use again at no least as a relic unit. Captain Idaho
The latest sales are down and the share price is tanking. Let's not assume the IP changes are a massive success for GW just yet. BLACK BLŒ FLY
I think they are because of the track record. There are many possible good reasons why sales are down this year. BloodyB
I think grav-bike veteran bikers might be possible, but I don't know if I would like that... I don't think that I would enjoy seeing space marine grav-bikes en massed. Having said that, I think I would like it if Forgeworld released 40k rules for their Grav bikes. Seeing some ancient flying Bois take to the skies after Crawl worked out how to get the things going again could be cool, and a little more flexibility for biker armies wouldn't be the worst thing. Jorin Helm-splitter
What if it cost a CP ? So like being able to take HH jetbikes as a relic unit? I could see that happening if there is a jetbike kit released with the HH stuff we've seen leaked images of. I wouldn't mind that, I just don't see Primaris getting them. The latest sales are down and the share price is tanking. Let's not assume the IP changes are a massive success for GW just yet. There's alot about 9th that frustrates people. Combat patrols going up to 140, 9ths missions are controversial, the lack of balance, day 1 dlc campaign books, AOS 3 not being super well received, and to be brutally honest the box sets have not been good values. I mean I'm sure I'm being defensive because people love to hate on Primaris but I don't see that fluff hurting sales years after it was introduced. edit: Forget vehicles being mostly awful. Sarvis
There is clearly the tech to make grav bikes, that isn’t a question. If cawl can make grav tanks… then bikes shouldn’t be an issue. That’s the lore thing for me, regardless of opinion of if SMs should have grav tech is tbh irrelevant at this point. The bigger question is why their bikes *don't* have grav. (Not to mention the current bikes would look far better with repulsor tech). Bikes (and invaders) are the only primaris vehicles that don’t have grav. Why? Dracos
Rule of Cool probably. They wanted to protect the Custodes design, and the best thing Primaris have going for them is their T5 chunkie boi looks. Fact is they've done nothing but nerf Primaris stuff since its release. Aggressors can't double shoot, 2W Firstborn are all but 1A in the Primaris stat line, all the grav-vehicles loose the fly ability, while Firstborn getting a T1 Drop Pod.
