I randomly had an idea for a conversion project involving  the Support Weapon kit to add to my army. But I have never used, or seen anybody use these in all my years.

My own Eldar army is a bit of everything, with a wraith focus in recent years, and a jetbike focus before that (so there was always a more thematic heavy weapon carrier). There is not a specific list that the support weapon would go in, more a case of another option to choose from.

So, how does one use these effectively, just sit back and hide or is there more to it?

The few times I have used them it was essentially I had a slot and 50 or so points left over and I stuck the webslinger version behind a building on an objective. The D-cannon one has potential, just very short ranged and silly high points cost. At that cost, if it killed anything great, not crying if it doesnt.

They are quite durable as there are 5 T5 wounds on each platform to chew through. A squad of 3 Shadow Weavers can be parked somewhere deep in cover and still put an average of 10 S6 shots on any target within 48" for just 150 points.

My only issue is that I tend to run out of Heavy slots before I get to support weapons as my army styles tend to favour more mobile units like Fire Prisms and Falcons and Wraithlords.

I think these are going to be pretty good going forwards - 24" range is hardly crippling, with the 2021 GT missions we see a lot of fighting over the centre of the board, along with oath, warpcraft and a lot of other stuff. Anything that can hit those units without retalliation is going to be golden.

If D-Cannons also get the rule about causing Mortal Wounds on a 6, they will be great even against Terminators, BGVs etc. Even the toughest anvil units will struggle against multiple S10 hits seasoned with a sprinkling of MWs.

I recall the D-Cannon rumour was Heavy D3, S12, AP-4, dD6+2, bonus mortal on a 6tw? It'll stop vehicles from wanting to be in the middle for sure. The D6+2 can alllmost knock a raider out in one shot (if you get a 6 to wound, it leaves the raider on 1W, and wouds the T6 raider on a 2+) which is decent. It'll also put the hurt on larger elite obsec units trying to take stuff.
