Bung Posted December 27, 2021 Share Posted December 27, 2021 After the discussion in this thread http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/372632-oil-paints/ i am starting this as a collection of oil colors and how to use them and i hope others will contribute too with theor experience The following is list is from scale model artist José Luis López Ruiz published in the german magazine Kit Modellbauschule Teil 8 Raw Umber - Winsor & Newton: general wash, dirt, mud zenital effects (shadow) mix with black for dark and wet mud Nickel Titan Yellow DP - Rembrand 280: zenital effects (Highlights) bright dust Lamp Black - Rembrand 702: extreme washes, zenital effecgts (darkest shadows), darken other colors Asphalt- Titan 80: grease / oil effects and dirt Titanium White - Rembrand 105: zenital effects (max light), mix to lighten other colors, fading of bright colors Permanent Red Light - Rembrand 370: fading of rust and used surface, zenital efffect (Highlught) on red and redbrown surfaces Naples Yellow Light - Winsor & Newton: brighten sandy colors like modern desert camoflage, dust effects Sepia - Titan 77: basically like Agrax Earthshade, used for heavy used and worn surfaces Cadmium Yelow Light - Rembrand 208: used for warm fading and to lighten surfaces Permanent Yellowish Green - Titan 65: usefull for cold fading and to lighten surfaces, zenital effects on green vehicles (Highlight) Olive Green - Abteilung 502: zenital effects on green vehicles Ultramarine Light - Rembrand 505 usefull for cold fading and dirt (engines / oil), zenital effects (shadow) Transparent Oxide Brown - Titan 75: fading on used and worn surfaces Titan Brown - Titan 76: dirt and wet mud, mix with Naples Yellow for Earth-, Mud- and Dust effects Raw Sienna - Rembrand 234: dirt and dried mud effects, mix with Naples Yellow for Earth-, Mud- and Dust effects Cinnabar Green Deep - usefull for warm and cold fading, lighten surfaces Cold Grey - Titan 85 - cold fading This list is for military scale models but i think its still usefull Personly i would add (i use Abteilung 502) Magenta (for more contrast in Yellow colors) Blue Grey / Paynes Grey (general usefull) Shadow Brown it gives a nice grim dark feeling for dirt etc. Starship Filth, i really love it to dull metall colors For a bit more information there is an Abteilung 502 book in different languages that deals with oil colors on military vehicles https://www.pk-pro.de/ABT-Mastering-Oils-1-Oil-Painting-Techniques-on-AFVs-English Stef Coudou, Shovellovin and Rik Lightstar 2 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/372745-oil-paints-which-and-how-to-use/ Share on other sites More sharing options...
