That's a wicked dreadnought, cool conversion - definitely very characterful and unique. I also like your paint scheme very much.

Going back in past, I am a huge fan of the scouts/acolytes - they're giving me strong Turok vibes and I love that.

Thanks Brother! Ive admired youre work over the years!

While I wasnt specifically going for Turok, it woukd certainly acurately describe the kind of vibe I was going for, so Im very pleased they did as intended.

You definitely have a fun project here. The sources of inspiration for your work here are original and not obvious at all for a 40k collection but this makes the conversions that much cooler. To be honest, I've been surprised to discover that I haven't seen your work in this thread before. I'm curious what'll be next!

Well im currently working on a Brutalis Dread. I have another crusaider squad and terminators to start and finish. After that its just adding things here and there, to round out thr army. Id like to get a land raider and some jump troops, but thats way down the line.  Thanks again, im glad the sources im taking inspiration from isnt super obvious. I did kind of want them to stand on their own.

So ive gotten some serious progress on the "base outline" of the brutalis. Ive changed the claw to look more like cat claws. Just have to do the other arm, and then i can start on the embellishments.

So I think I have the final silhouette done. I wanted him to kind if look like wolverine, ready to pounce (or this:) large_180.png.2f0b9f4c2583b7a02bc79557ca

I always modify my dreads to make them a bit taller and less pregnant looking, so I'll need to add something to the midsection to bulk it out. Thoughts?

Looking good, like the conversions you've made to the base dread

Thank you! After having done the Boxnought (something I will NEVER do again, lol) I wanted this one to look more like a redemptor. Its a goal of mine to have each model.in my army converted in some way. Needless to say, it took me a week to build this dreadnought instead if an afternoon, lol. But I think it was worth it.

@Firedrake CordovaWell they all have meaning. When the marine inside was alive, he belonged to the Lodge of the Moon. Which specializes in Close Quarter Combat and stealth operations. However, since he has been entombed in a dreadnought, he now is attached to the Lodge of the Sun, which specializes in heavy weaponry. If youre super curious, you can find out more in my IA article. Admittedly its a long read, more of a codex honestly. (There's a few typos in it, so pardon those.)

INDEX ASTARTES: The Void Panthers

So Ive finished converting my Grimaldus stand-in.  Here was my inspiration.

And here he is: Jinong Jagaa Baratu

A 360 view

The sculpted chain mail could be better, but im fairly happy with it for a first attempt. I think the key is to make the holes closer than you think, and as evenly spaced as possible. Thoughts?

Thanks for looking.

I love the model. Once he's painted up, the chain mail will look fine.

I think youre probably right. You know how it goes, we are our own worst critic.

In my time offline, I've missed the entire process of you working on the dreadnought. It turned out great, I dare say, even better than the previous one. The modification to the arms/claws is very ingenious and worked out very well. The addition of the cables (with hazard stripes!) was an excellent choice - it added some much-needed details to a part that might have otherwise been a bit plain/problematic because of the repositioning of the 'hand.' The thick, ribbed green stuff cables extending from underneath the exhaust stacks are alsu great.

And the new model, man, great stuff! I think you must be pretty glad with the new SW releases. The chain mail looks good enough and will only look better with some paint on it. I remember my attempts and they were okay-ish when painted and yours is leagues better so you should be on the safe side of things. Sure, it's not CAD-design or plastic-injection quality but it seems to be as good as any hand-made GS chain mail I've seen. I also like the thickness of it - it somehow perfectly fits the Conanian aesthetic

Realistically, I think the only way to improve it is to perhaps buy a textured plate from Green Stuff World. But frankly, I don't think it's worth the money and effort.

Did you fill in the runes on the ribbons with Milliput?

@Brother Christopher

Thanks! Im pretty happy with the brutalis. I agree that overall its better than the first. The boxnought just looks in my mind, kinda...off at that size. I agree, it was a bit of a struggle to come up with something to cover up the hand re-pose. I had to 3d print some small spheres to make it look like a ball joint. After that cables seemed like a logical detail. The back cables i did because i needed to cover up the waist extention I did, and that was a convenient way to do it.

Much appreciated. I am pretty happy with the SW release. I try not to use their bits too much as then they would look like purple space wolves. If you look closely the sculpted fur is always a lot smoother (to be reminiscent of a great cat), rather than the bulkiness of a wolf.  Its actually a really fine line to walk. Im trying to balance a traditional knightly look with a barbarian look, within the context of armored sci-fi warriors, lol. And i actually use the GSW texture plate. The problem is I cant do rounded shapes with it, which is why I did it by hand this time. The plates work really well, but for flat verticle sections.

And yes, i used standard miliput, to fill in the runes. Just used a hobby knife to smash it in there, and a brush with some water to smooth it out.

So Ive finished the Relic Squires. Since Im using the model as grimaldus, i needed stand ins for the servitors. In my head cannon, the squires are acolytes that are identified early on as not able to become astartes for.one reason or another. So they enter the Squire Corps and serve as administrators and servanta to the Void Panthers. The best among them can serve in their fleet or in special combat roles. They are proven warriors as far as mortals go, so they have the honor of carrying these relics into battle. They may not have become Astartes, but they can still serve.

And of course a 360 if you all are interested.

Thanks for looking.

These are superb conversions, as always. Would you mind telling me where the one-handed running axe squire’s head came from. That is a nice head.

@Tallarn Commander thank you! His head is from a warcry kit called the Wildercorps Hunters. I bought them for a Mordheim team Im making, and wasnt going to use that Sgt head....has a real ancient gladiator feel to it, IMHO.

Haha, dope guys - I envy your GS work; the chain mail, hair and fur look as good as always.

The squire with the banner is obviously barbarically cool; the dude with the mace (psycher's head) relic thingy has fabulous hair; but I think I like the one with the sword and axe the best. The gladiator helmet/mask works very well. You've also made great use of what appears to be copper wire; I have to make a mental note of that - it's a great way of adding scale-appropriate minor details. I particularly like the vambrace and the braiding/plait along the staff handle.

Its also a great way to hide numerous modeling sins like connection points lol! But i do very much use it a lot, especially in twisted or braided patterns to simulate hair or rope

So ive finished up Jagaa, pardon the bright pics, i cant seem to get my lighting right. Anyway, i painted him with what is supposed to be an Cold Iron Crozius. Thoughts?

And for those interested, a 360
