Valkia: thank you! Kind of using them to practice my freehand.

Tycho: thanks man, I actually spent a lot of time trying to gauge how much of one to use, then the other, etc. I kinda feel like it's a fine line I'm walking. Glad you think they work.

Bjorn: thank you! As for your questions, I used Mongolian naming convention because those names are not very common in the west, so they feel foreign and somewhat tribal. They aren't named after any particular character or individuals. I just wanted something that felt unique. And while the white scars are very Mongolian influenced, they use the very common names that people have heard.

Phandaal:  Hah! Crom laughs at the four winds! ;)

Smoke Frog:  Thanks brother!

These are so characterful! Amazing! Feels like each one has a story to tell.

Re: the greenstuffed chainmail, it looks like you're using the greenstuff world texture plates. If you are, would you explain how you go about it? I've had a rough time using them and keeping the chainmail texture sharp.

Thank you! And yes I am using texture plates. How I do it, is I just mix up a fresh batch of GS, wet the plate a little bit with water. Then I take the GS and press it into the plate. I kind of press on the edges to stretch it across the plate to make a very thin layer of GS. Then I just leave it there until it's cured. Then peal it off and cut to shape. If thay still doesn't work that well for you, you might want to check your mixture. Try 2 parts Yello to one part blue, that will get you sharper detail, easier. But I've found that that isn't typically necessary. Hope that helps :)

Smokefrog and Kyknos: Thank you for the kind words! Truly appreciated.

So I've finished up the Acolytes for Host Talon:

++Fluff Warning++

A Void Panther Acolyte, is one who is a disciple to the Wheel of Pain.  It is a wheel with ten spokes.  Each spoke is a milestone in turning a raw recruit into a full fledged Astartes.  Each acolyte is given a medallion to remind them the path that they walk. Upon finishing their walk of the wheel, they will earn their mail. Their chainmail is a symbol of the ultimate warrior, the warrior they choose to be. Once they are a full fledged marine, they will be inducted into the first lodge, the Lodge of the Void. Chained with wooden chains made from the Atlantan Tree, found only on their world Primordus, the chains symbolize their devotion to the Emperor.  When in the "void," it is a physical reminder of where their loyalties lay.  In order to earn these symbols, the Acolytes must finish their walk with a final rite.  The Rite of Combat, wherein they will accompany a Host.  If they have proved themselves to the Seneschal, to be worthy, they will be formally accepted into the host, and given the final rites to finish their transformation into a Space Marine.  This process, has no time limit.  They either prove themselves, or die trying. Up until they have earned their mail, they are simply given a number, but often are simply referred to as, "Acolyte."  Once they have earned their mail, they will be seen by the Chapter Master who holds the title, of Master of the Wheel. There he will use the Sword of Portents, to decipher the new warrior's fate, and give them an appropriate name.  This name will be written in the Book of Hunters.

Those are some great looking scouts! Is Primordus the homeworld of the Void Panthers?

Why yes it is. So, I've been very slowly working on their background fluff.

++Fluff Warning++

They guard the unstable bridge that crosses the Cicatrix Maledictum in the galactic south. It is only open for about 9 months out of every decade. The Primordus system is located within that "bridge," whereby, when it is closed, the entire system is cut off by intense warp storms.

Surprisingly due to a staggering amount of Blackstone of unknown origins, located on all of the major planets in the system, the system itself seems to be protected; even when completely surrounded by the Warp. Because of this the Void Panthers were put there to protect this tenuous foothold, with a sizable contingent of Adeptus Mechanicus, in order to study the stone and see if it is possible to make the opening permanent. Such a thing would ease the pressure off of Vigilus and be a great strategic boon to the Imperium.

Needless to say in my head cannon, there are quite a few adversaries in the system, that seek to control it, (a necron dynasty,  at the very least.) Because of how often the system is isolated the Void Panthers have to spend much of their time unsupported by the rest of the Imperium, literally surrounded by the Void that is the Warp. Thus (to bring us full circle) that is why they have such things that physically remind them if their duties (chains, etc.) In order to keep their wills steeled against the perils of the warp.

This is one reason as to why the Void Panthers avoid having g librarians.  The other, is either due to irony or a blessing of the Emperor. Due to the local populations living in and around all the blackstone, they have an unusually high rate of warp pariah occurance, in their bloodline. Thus the Void Panthers are unusually resistant to Warp taint. They have a saying:

"When we stare into the Void too long, eventually, the Void stares back. And when it does, it trembles at the sight of us."

Sorry for the fluff rant, I'll eventually get around to writing up an IA for them.

So because the Void Panthers are often cut off from the Imperium, they often have to use older, more proven, technologies to fix their advanced weaponry. Hence the redemptor sized boxnought

Thanks!

To answer your first question: it is this:

Sigiriya-Rock-Fortress-site.jpg

As for your second request, here's a little tidbit.

The Void Panthers have a much looser organization that most Astartes Chapters. Due to the almost complete isolation, many brothers move back and forth between roles depending on what the situation dictates. Because of this the Panthers are broken up into a set of Lodges that denote experience.

The first is not really a lodge but a path to them:

The Wheel of Pain: besides its practical purpose, the wheel of pain is designed to teach the acolyte the true meaning to the "Riddle of Steel." That is that steel is nothing, Will is everything. And in a place almost perpetually surrounded by the Warp, no lesson seems more apt.

The Lodge of the Void: the first lodge, used to reinforce the lessons learned on the Wheel of Pain, these Astartes typically serve the standard Infantry role. This allows them to gain experience in all manner of fighting situations, and perfect the skills of the predator. They are guided by a much more experienced seneschal from the Lodge of the Eclipse.

The Lodge of the Moon: After a brother has spent a sufficient amount of time in the Lodge of the Void, the move to this Lodge. Having perfected the skills of the Predator, these Astartes serve as stealth recon and close quarters assault specialists. The Lodge of the Moon, symbolizes the protection of night when a hunter can truly come to grips with his prey.

The Lodge of the Sun: This lodge signifies the most difficult stepping a hunter's journey: killing one's prey out in the open, without the benefit of darkness. Moreover the sun is a symbol of emense power and destruction if approached too closely. The Void Panther's heavy weapons teams and vehicles units typically serve under this sigil.

The Lodge of the Eclipse: An amalgamation of the other symbols, members of the lodge are truly veterans of the great hunt. They are the apex predator; deadly in all cycles of the day, and with all weapons. All of the Void Panthers' leadership core belongs to this lodge. Many serve to mentor less experienced "predators" as a seneschal to a host belonging to another lodge.  Others seek out more specialist positions, such as shaman of Steel, or in the case of the Chaptermaster, he is the chieftain of the lodge. With that comes the right to wear the Horns of Power.

Additionally should he be worthy, he may be chosen to wield the Swords of Portents, thus becoming the Master of the Wheel as well. This does not always fall on the Chapter Master's shoulders as the ability to guide the young is not necessary to lead a Chapter. But attaining the title, does allow one to compete for the right to wield it. More on the Sword of Portents later....
