I thought it would be a fun family activity to try #KidsChapterChallenge with my dear daughter who is currently recovering from the human malware. And it surely was!

What she came up with was.. quite something. I think the watermelon shoulderpads were an amazing idea for a five year old! Alas, I present you the Emperor's finest: Chromatic Watermelons

I saw the first picture and thought something along the lines of, "Holy crap! That would be a pain to paint. I doubt anyone is that crazy." And then I scrolled down.

Kudos to you for actually painting that scheme and showing your child how much you love her. That is a great way to brainwash ease her into the hobby. Now you just need to complete an entire kill team to get her going.

I remember my brother painted a model kit of a flying boat (Short Sunderland I think) similarly to this for me. I wasn't expecting to have this thread bring up a fond memory I'd forgotten about. Thank you. I don't know where the watermelon detail came from but it's certainly amusing.

I'm so impressed by the watermelon pauldrons that i want to make my custom Chapter, The Emperor's Watermelons.  Now I gotta figure out its Chapter Tactics.

Master Artisans and either Born Heroes or Fearsome Aspect suggest themselves, purely on what it would take to go to battle as a watermelon.

Considering what the late R. Lee Ermey regularly did to watermelons on Mail Call, it should emphasize FIREPOWER. In this case, using a watermelon as a Chapter symbol will be like using a split skull as a Chapter symbol: a warning of what fate awaits your enemies.

Use Iron Hands and/or Imperial Fists Chapter tactics to maximize the effects of your Marines' small arms, medium arms (autocannons, lascannons, Gatling guns, missile launchers), large arms (battle cannons, Vanquisher cannons, Earthshaker cannons- it doesn't matter if they're not in Codex: Space Marines, copy the stats and special rules in Codex: Astra Militarum, get the models, and shoehorn Space Marine crewmen into them).

Crack open enemy bodies the way R. Lee Ermey used his guns to crack open watermelons.

Thanks for all the kind words and wishes.  I doubt I will make a Kill Team or anything of the kind for this paint scheme.  It was a 6 hour or so paintjob I did to make her less miserable for a while, and it worked; it was all that counted.

As for initiating her into painting figures, I kind of did.  Here's something she painted last month.  Her first mini, actually.  She has been following me closely for a while, and knows things like thinning your paint, separating objects by color, doing multiple coats, shading, brush control etc.  Obviously, she is not a master painter or anything but I still think this was pretty amazing for a 5 year old who was just putting to practice what she learned through watching and listening.

Please pass on my compliments to your daughter, for her efforts. She certainly invested more in her art than Matt Ward did in his.

Is that a Wood Elf from Warhammer Fantasy, or will she use the model as an Aeldari Aspect Warrior?

Bolter Fusillades should be one, to represent the power of spittin' watermelon seeds.
