Ok i guess we've all seen the stats on the new tau railgun that does a minimum of 10W, 3 or which are mortal and ignores armor and IS. (Wow, i guess a matt ward clone   is writing for tau now.)

Anyway, i am looking forward to seeing a batrep where one of these draws the ire of a c'tan shard, especially the void dragon.

Railgun: "I do a minimum of 10 wounds, 3 of which are mortal, i will one shot you!"

C'tan: "I take a maximum of 3 wounds per phase, fishboy."

Railgun:"

At a glance and in practice(in some games), it would seem that a c'tan wound be useful. But under the control of a savvy tau player, it wouldnt be too difficult to throw road blocks and even take one out by turn 3. The relative slow movement of a c'tan could be outmanouvered. A couple turns of good tau shooting, strategic roadblocks, ability to shoot into combat for suits, and good overwatch could ruin a c'tan's day. We have yet to see what other dirty tricks they can pull off. Concerned for strats or rules that allow a fall back and shoot or the like. Especially from a charge.

But generally agreed. It would be interesting to watch and play a few games.

Now on the other hand, I want to see a c'tan and new Avatar showdown.

No, it also causes 3 mortal wounds. Unlike normal wounds, Mortal wounds spill over.

So one skorpekh would take minimum 7 regular wounds to the face, then the additional 3 mortal wounds would spill over and kill another.

And you know people will have more than 1 of these bad boys in their lists.

The gun is nuts, its one shotting almost all walkers like dreadnoughts, ignored invulnerable saves, ignores cover saves because -6AP.

With our deathrays were as cool lol

Chuck Ctan into outflanking reserves for added cheek. Cut that travel distance down.

Nephrek translocation crypt stratagem to deep strike choice units against it could be good. Keeping lokhust heavy destroyers in deep strike can potentially make the position of the rail gun irrelevant.

The other option is to go silver tide. That railgun will be wasted on Warriors unless the Tau players burns CPs for the Submunitions stratagem (which is capped at 8 MWs).

Horde units, C'tan and units with Quantum shielding have a bit less to worry about from Railguns than other stuff. Not perfect but at least there are work-arounds if Railguns start proliferating.

I am starting to think that Scarab Swarms might be the answer. Chuck a biggish unit forward to try and tag it in melee and simply gum it up. You should be able to reach it T2.

GW needs to focus on Necrons in its next balance dataslate. They are so far behind. Looking at all these new leaks and books then looking at Necrons stuff its almost like they are a full edition behind the curve.

Unless the next balance dataslate contains changes to weapons profiles (getting rid of Necron swingy d6 and d3 damages), we won't have a good time. Points adjustments are fine, but one of the big issues with Necrons right now is the variable damage that Necrons do, rather than the steady damage other factions do.

I have to agree. A friend and I met up for a 3000 point game over Christmas so that we could get our big toys that we don't get to field very often. I ran Blood Angels with flyers, a DC Dread and other rarely seen units. My opponent had a C'tan shard, Monolith and Doomscythe on top of a regular Necron list. Neither of us were playing top tier lists but I was embarrassed at how utterly the BAs curb-stomped the Necrons, even with a non-optimised list.

At a minimum their points are just too high on everything and all the vehicles except tomb blades are just trash

Also the new Secondary and Primary missions from the new CA22 hurts Necrons even more so than current. No Prisoners hurts Silver Tide (Warriors and MSU), decreased Primary VP from holding objectives hurts our obsec game, and new rules to Retrieve Data means more expensive units to complete the actions (no more Cryptothralls)
