I actually assembled mine differently. I like to do sub-assemblies and paint them before final assembly. This is particularly useful on models like a bike where lots of parts end up behind the rider's legs which makes it hard to paint them properly. I did this by assembling and painting the wheels first. I then primed the two halves of the bike body to make sure you don't get glimpses of unpainted plastic showing under the wheel arches.

Then I glued the front wheel to one half of the bike body and the back wheel to the other half. This meant I could paint all the fiddly bits more easily and just glue the two half-assemblies together at the end. It is actually pretty easy to do and the description sounds more complicated than it actually is. The finished model came out quite nicely.
