Experimenting with the successor chapters this season has earned me a top 16 finish (14/16 woot woot)

I didn't win 1st place anywhere but I made top 4 quite a few times

Even captured 2nd place once

Don't expect me to win since SW are not an S tier army

But I do intend to go down swinging and will see what kind of damage I can do before I get knocked out

Knockout round starts Friday

*won't have time to do my normal BATREP since I am playing on a clock

I have faced this type of army once before...got smashed on sweep n clear

Ork went first and was able to do too much damage

If I had gone first it would have been a role reversal

The bikes can advance and shoot and there is a crazy stratagem to increase shots too

Gonna be a tough challenge for round 1

Was a rough showing

Went 0-3 but i fought to the bitter end

Beware the new custodes...that plate relic is insane and a hard counter to SW melee

Not a HI so being ruled he cant be attacked when he teleports in with obsec 4 bodies

That relic sounds insane more so because it isn't fraction locked. I'm really surprised that they would rule he couldn't be attacked. I can understand that it isn't a HI by RAW, but RAI it meant to be one. Thanks for the head's up though I really expect to run into a fair amount of Custodes at adepticon.

Do you think the new mission pack would've helped you in these matchups or are wolves just starting to fall behind a bit more?

IMO codex creep is doing what we all expect

We are balanced fairly well in a world of S tier OP unfortunately

SW just falling behind more with every release

Our best trick with the armor of russ is basically a freebie new codexes are given now

Sisters got it

Orks speed wagh got it

Admech got it

We have no unique or elite rules/relics to fight back the latest game breaking stuff

I know most will ignore me or outright disagree, but to me the strength of wolves has been our increased ability to outflank.

Straight up fist fights we lose, but we have an impressive potential to control tempo and guarantee alpha strikes. That's how I tend to win my matches

That said, glad I don't have to play the meta chasers most of the time. Trying to hobby at that pace is insane; seems army comp needs to change every 3-6 months.

Our outflank is vanilla

WS have same trick but it is not limited to infantry...they can also get 3D6 on the charge

An example of S tier outflank is orks

Ork speedwaaah has deffkoptas that arrive from deepstrike and leave at the end of the turn for 2 CP

the bouncing BS trick that has 0 player interaction for defending player

i do agree our strength was controlling the tempo but new custodes and praetorian plate shattered that into a million pieces

Tigurius, help me understand a few of your army list choices here.

1.  What is the purpose of the two Company Veterans?  Who are they going to be guarding?

2.  Why those two Litanies on your Chaplain?  Who do you keep him near to Inspire with ranged-focused Litanies?  Saga of the Hunter is a choice in which you'd want him to be getting his charge off with, but your Litany choice seems like you're wanting to keep him back near some Fire Support units.

3.  Finally, why the Suppressor Pack?  Has it been doing work for you?

Thanks in advance for any insight on these choices.

Bodyguards are for any HQ to use based on map and objectives

If an objective is in the open i can grab it safely

If i want to charge far away i pre move to the edge of bodyguard range and "load the catapult" to help launch me next turn

If this doesnt make sense i have pictures i can upload later (replying on phone now)

Chaplain shooting buffs happen in the command phase. i can buff then zoom off with my obsec bubble or reroll all hits bubble somewhere else.

usually i shoot turns 1/2 then all melee adter that

Suppressors because i had 100 spare points and wanted a jump capable unit i could throw away to grab an objective. originally had skyclaws but swapped to suppressors bc they have more synergy with the list

they are decent and provide utility

meta is shifting with custodes and tau and GSC releases though so none of my old stuff works anymore.

I just watched your game against Ork Biker spam. That was brutal, and you've suffered from cold dice.

I get how the list works and to be honnest I really like it. It has a good balance between Shooting and Assault, a lot of mobility and tricks. Being a Raven Guard player, this style of play has a lot of appeal to me. Looking forward to your next games!

meta is shifting with custodes and tau and GSC releases though so none of my old stuff works anymore.

How do you see this playing out? I haven't been able to game enough in the past few months to really analyze the new game changes.

I see it going poorly

I made a custodes list to goof around with to use the same style of play i do with SW...hero hammer fight last etc.

That custodes list went down in points more than my hard core SW with wulfen based on rumors list

Final update for a while...because quite frankly the custodes meta has broken my will as a SW and i am gonna take a break

I had hope against all the other meta that came out but i have nothing for custodes anymore

I play tested a custodes list to see if i could learn flaws...i felt dirty after

As a SW my custodes experience felt like super buffed god mode was turned on

The shadowkeepers play almost exactly like my SW do

custodes guard with shields are like buffed up BGV with double obsec

the relic stasis oubliette is like armor of russ

but they just had sooooo many other advantages that i dont need to go into

I lost 3 models total...against a good sisters of battle player using celestine and vahl

The shadowkeeper custodes list can hard counter melee armies and requires 0 skill to come out on top

Hunker down fellow SW...the competitive scene is going to be rough for a while

It'll be interesting to see how GW uses the balance data slates moving forward. I just don't think the current system works well if you want to be competitive and main one army.

Thanks for the battle reports and hopefully GW tightens things up for you a bit.

@TiguriusX

I was building a list that looks similar to yours by coincidence, mind checking it out in the Lists section under Tempestus Griffons (Space Wolves Successor) 2,000 pts.
