Interesting list - can't really speak to its effectiveness as I've never played with many of the units you are using.

That said, it seems kind of peculiar fluff wise for a Word Bearers army to have all of its units sworn to slaanesh - is this just so you can use cacophonies on any unit?  You might want to diversify your marks so - in particular, I don't know what benefit the mark of slaanesh brings to your Maulerfiend, given that it doesn't have a shooting weapon for cacophonies.

The list was effective enough, I guess. The reasons they’re Slaanesh-marked are so the shooty units can double-shoot with endless cacophony, any unit can be a target of delightful agonies from the daemon prince, and every unit can have death to the false emperor on a 5+ instead of a 6+ with the icon of excess.

The other marks would have had no particular point or synergy, unless the HQs were also changed, which is an option but I thought Slaanesh was the best mark for the above reasons.

Somehow deleted the response to techsoldaten. I was thinking all game long how much better the army would be with an extra wound. Not a new observation but it’s always quite clear to me. I imagine I’d have to cut a unit to account for points increases but no biggie there.

That makes sense - just seemed  a bit weird to go all slaanesh for a Word Bearers force is all, but there this is your army list and it doesn't need to comply to whatever holdups I have in my own head. :)  And I agree that slaanesh is the best mark in the current codex.

I take it you have gone Word Bearers for the 3rd power on your Apostle?  I'm not really familiar with their stratagems and relics.

One thing I don't know if you are aware of but in the last eratta the profile of plasma weapons have changed - they now only overheat on a natural roll of 1.  That means, unfortunately, that the +1 to hit from your sorcerer and apostle will no longer prevent overheats.  As such, it might make more sense to have a lord with its reroll 1s to hit instead of one of  your +1 to hit choices to go with the termies and help prevent overheats.

I guess there's always a line for everyone but I feel pretty free to dabble in everything, in terms of what's in an army. Word Bearers have no limitations in how to build their lists (unlike, say, World Eaters) so I see no reason to limit myself. As far as I see it, they're still a "functional" legion with all the additional heresy they've played with for 10,000 years. Surely a force so vast could be represented in an infinite number of ways, even if it isn't the stereotype of the army.

I enjoy the fluff but also having as dangerous an army as possible without delving into the OP/broken which ruins it all. It's all really an abstraction, so who's to say Slaanesh isn't giving the army a little extra oomph because the Dark Apostle forced a bunch of cultists into a weird hedonism ritual which ended in a mass sacrifice? And the next time maybe the army will be appealing to Tzeentch to divine a path to some chosen relic, or Nurgle to fill the atmosphere of a planet with plague gas and turn their population to zombies, or the bloodfather Khorne to witness the defeat of enemy champions in his name.

Word Bearers are the only ones to have the upgraded Dark Apostle, but they're WB because they're WB. All the non-Khornate CSM stuff I own feeds into that army, which is frankly an absurd number of minis. Just a sweet bonus that this time around there are good rules for WB in the form of strats and warlord traits, despite the stinky legion rules. For example, you roll for a psychic power and if you fail, you can spend the CP to auto-pass it, it can't be denied, but it inflicts a mortal wound on the psyker as a cost. Another strat allows you to roll a save and then spend the CP to count the save as a 6. Once per character per game, but awesome. And then some stuff to buff daemon units.

I did indeed forget about how gets hot was changed, but luckily they had a daemon prince deep strike with them for their overcharged shooting, so I didn't unintentionally cheat :biggrin.:.

That makes sense - just like my chaos lists are always Emperor's Children, not because I think that's the best legion but because that's how I have them painted.  Have you posted photos of them?  If not, you should do so in the WB forum.

Another rules (non) interaction is that the demon prince is the only CSM HQ with FLY that can't deepstrike - so you actually didn't escape breaking the rules that game. :)  So, if you want to drop the termies onto the board, to benefit from a reroll aura you either need to do so next to where you already moved your demon prince, or to get a lord in terminator armour or a jump pack (perhaps as a swap for your sorcerer in termie armour).
