Hello all,

I just wanted to pop in and let you know I have been still playing my Ultra's with some new/weird combo's.

I'm trying to maximize what we do well, which I still 100% believe is our characters, wargear/relics and flexibility. One without the other just does not work in competitive play. It's not one unit, or one phase of the game... it is the sum of the parts.

We don't kill well enough in any one phase of the game to play that type of hyper focused game. I would still recommend leaving that to the armies/marines that have hyper specialization.

I'm still experimenting. There are some things I just don't use with my UM's

My last game was a close loss. I despise going first with my Ultra's, and I always take "Oath" as a secondary.

My loss was against Death Guard and it was basically just the fact I could not get rid of 13 combined terminators, and with the -1 T aura, I had to throw way too much into the center.

As a result I'm going back to an older (mostly) Primaris army I am tweaking:

Guilliman

Tiggy

Cassius

10 Intercessors

5 Hvy Intercessors

5 Assault Intercessors

3 Bladeguard

Judiciar (Warden)

Victrix Honour Guard

Invader ATV

Suppressor Squad

Eradicators

Hellblasters

Landspeeder Storm.

This will be my next experiment trying to get Guilliman back in the game.

As a funny note: My last game I used my 2 Firestike Servo Turrets with twinlas.... they were incredibly good. I could not believe how they were ignored, and without them I never would have got one of the PBC's down (which counted for some to the last points.)

Too bad they're so expensive, but I am trying VERY hard to stop using Redemptors. We'll see how this goes.

What was the DG list? Yours look very casual, I thus assume your opponent likewise played with a more casual list?

Imo I believe the strenght of UM lies in their Infantry, not characters. Me and my friends mostly play 2 vs 2. Overall my infantry always contributes significantly to how the games play out. Ive toyed w Redemptors and their good, but not a crucial autoinclude for UM.

The only autoinclude I have in every list is Tigurius and 1x10 Intercessors, everything else is fluid as I have 8k (without upgrades) painted by now to alternate with.

Gman is just not appealing to me to pick. I would love the model to work, but hes just far overpriced. Seriously the only time he hits the tabletop atm for me is when I PROXY him as Marneus Calgar XD.

Il admit up front though im very biased in general believing herohammer is bad and spamming a lot of bodies is good (volume of dice also kills stuff and volume creates more reliable average damage output) I dont like the castling approach that much and rather have the option to flood the board to establish control.

*takes salt to season his munchies* You dont face Tau 100 percent of the time.

I think this is why he said 'competitive play'.

Casually? Sure put them out there. In a tournament when you are going for a weekend of play (or even 3 games) you want to give yourself the best chance of not being tabled. Tau will absolutely rip redemptor lists in pieces, and it's a safe bet  from everything I'm seeing that they will be everywhere until GW has sold enough kits to start the nerf machine up.

For my list, yup it was a fun list. My shocking result was using GMan to such good results against SoB the other night. I then took it against new Custodes and did not fair so well.

In a rematch with Custodes I took my White Scars and using the new scoring system I eaked out a win. Guilliman is not for the feint of heart. We all know this codex needs a touch up badly, but I still take it out for a spin 1-2 times a week!

I´m so happy to see you still playing game with them and also geting good experince with even a couple of wins. I have almost given up on tem as I have played 7 games with only one win. Feels not so good. But you give me hope.

I like the mix of units that complement each other rather than an emphasis on spammage.

With Guiliman's inclusion, do you feel his support aura gives the army enough of a benefit? Would you consider more units around him (clumping castles yuk), in many ways a Marine horde?

As a new Custodes player, what elements did you struggle against most? I'm thinking Custodes are premium anti-elite army so it makes sense.

Be tangential, but what did the White Scars achieve that Ultramarines struggled with?
