Hey everyone!

Finally in a position to start working on an army and I've ben jumping all over on where I wanted to start. Thinking about jumping in on my first T'au army. Purchased a Cadre Fireblade to run through and see if I enjoy painting T'au. But that is just a side point. I was watching Auspex Tactic's review of Codex T'au and he listed some (all?) of the new T'au warlord traits and I was curious what others thought about them.

There are some bangers in that list for sure. I don't want to list them all out here with their names because I don't want to cause any problems. But you can see them here: T'au Warlord Traits

The one that is jumping out to me right now is Through Boldness Victory. In a game of dice, anything that helps you reduce the chance of failure is huge. From what I recall of batreps that I have watched, T'au through dice. Maybe not as many as Orks, but T'au can dumpster boards with dice.

Anyway, what is your favorite Warlord Trait?

Exemplar of Montka is bonkers on a unit of 5 suits with flamers or flamers+burst.

Precision of the Hunter is really good on a commander armed to the teeth that wants to fight in melee as well (onager gauntlet + prototype flamer).

I am a fan of the Borkan one. Getting a -1 AP on all weapons and an extra MW on 6s even if its only up to three is pretty high speed. Plus the Borky Bork Bork traits and strat is pretty nice in general.

Hard to pick a favourite but I would echo the Bork'An sentiment, Could see that being quite beastly. Take Coldstar to have high-output, give him Flamer, HO-Burst cannon, Burst Cannon and then throw in ether a Plasma Rifle or Fusion Blaster. Bork'An warlord trait, Prototype the flamer and then with relic amp the HO-Burst and proto-flamer (if you can't because of missed details, then just do the other burst cannon). Slap a shield generator on him and you have a seriously potent damage dealer who can wound tanks with guns on 4+ with burst cannons (that's pretty mean) and can also fight because that flamer gives him D6+2 extra attacks. Also, is the mortal wounds only at range? because if not that could make him get pretty silly in melee.

However I can see a popular build around of Precision of the Hunter for a build like Plasma, Fusion, Cyclic, Missile for dealing with high toughness targets. I can see Cadre Fireblades being quite popular with getting ether of the core infantry buff powers, ether the aura or the pick a unit to get 6s auto-wound.

Etherals I doubt will see much of warlord traits unless they are the only back left to put one on. Certainly not a bad idea to be a Mont'Ka or Kauyon WL mule for one CP depending on your strategy, especially if you go Kauyon. 1CP to redeploy 3 units is kind of nutty and rarely bad (even if you have to put the CP down before seeing the board).

I like the idea of an enforcer commander with the be’gel hunter’s plate, precision of the hunter and a ton of weapons. The signature flamer, CIB, plasma and fusion, probably. He wouldn’t have an invulnerable but a 1+ save, -1D and 5+++ should make him pretty tough. Maybe give him a couple of shield drones if you want.

For a cold star commander I think I’d want a positional relay (if that’s what it’s called) to bring in suits on T1 and obviously a high-yield BC. He’d probably get the same trait but the 4++ relic that lets you ignore a hit instead of the plate. Same warlord trait and signature flamer I think.

Overall I think the coldstar guy brings a bit more utility. I do think it would be fun to have an absolute beast of a Monat enforcer commander running around though. For best results he can use strike a “fade” to rush the enemy after firing, then charge a pretty respectable distance.

I actually think Shadowsun’s Kau’yon trait could be really interesting. It allows you to deploy hyper-aggressively with suits (and maybe broadsides). If you’re going second you can pick kau’yon and essentially null deploy, preparing ~1k of stuff to appear in turn 2, or earlier if you use tricks to appear on T1.

If the rest of your force is things like kroot, pathfinders and guys in devilish then you’ve got some fun options. Deploy those out of sight, or somewhere they can run out if needed. If you get first turn you can take Mont’ka and rush the middle. If you’re going second you vanish, perhaps leaving a kroot screen to slow the enemy down.
