Paladin777
Has anyone else seen the new tau? I watched a couple of batreps (tau vs BA and tau vs WS) and damn, I can't help but wonder how SM in general are gonna even compete! The SM were smashed both times and it wasn't even close. BloodyB
In the main, aiming to minimise their opportunities to actually shoot seems best. Deep striking units backed up by Suppressors are my own bet. I know that no-one is going to just let you do that, but it is better than nothing. I actually got in a conversation with some fellow Marine players I know regarding the use of PHOBOS armies. Reivers could actually pull some good weight in the right circumstances. Just the ability to deny an enemy their shooting could be too big not to try for. Personally, I am most concerned with their battlesuits. Right now, Primaris Marines don't have an awful lot of ways to deal with them efficiently outside of Infiltrators and Eradicators, and no, their tanks don't count simply by virtue of being so sucky. For what its worth, Tau have never really been easy to deal with. They've always had some of the best shooting in the game, even when their books were sub-par. The thing about it is, how many tau armies are you going to reliably face? and then what are your options to counter it in the meta? Part of the problem with just staying out of their LOS is that they managed to out-maneuver a White Scars list! The Mont-Ka that they can use (army-wide advance, then shoot as if stationary for the first three battle rounds, and number of their units can move again after shooting) is ridiculous. As far as denying overwatch goes, they use a strategem like the rest of us. They just have a wargear option on a lot of models that allow it to be done for free (and on a 5+) but not more than once per turn. As such I don't see avoiding that as high of a priority as it used to be. Oh yeah, their battlesuits can shoot into combat now. Even smaller ones like crisis suits so they don't crumple when you hit their lines anymore. With the strength of this book, popularity of the anime/gundam like appearance, and comparative ease to paint/magnetize, I foresee quite a bit more opportunity to play against Tau, even at casual FLGS and RTT. Spagunk
Been out of the scene for awhile (HH keeps me busy) but back in 8th edition pretty much all my locals had/complained about their Tau so its possible a chunk of people probably/might have a TAU army lying around waiting for use.Don't discount the band-wagoneers as they'll chase any meta. Nothing wrong with that. Tau have just never been fun to play against. Even in narrative games they are a tough army to play against. I know before I sold my tau army it was hard to get games in because everyone groaned when I brought it. Hence why I sold it. Paladin777
I've never liked playing against Tau either, all the way back since fourth edition! Just counterpointing your implication that they would somehow be a rarity moving forward.
