Request for price estimation - Vostroyans

I have a potential buyer for my metal Vostroyans. What I have is as follows:

- command squad [ officer, standard, comms, medic ]
- two snipers

- special / heavy weapons [ flamer, plasma, grenade launcher, hvy bolter, sapper ]
- six lasgun troopers + laspistol sergeant

They are complete, original metals, undamaged. They have been primed with Badger Stynylrez black primer (polyurethane) and zenithal highlighted, both with aibrush, then their uniforms were airbrush based with red. Very much ready to complete painting at any level.

I would like to ask for a price estimate, if possible, I've seen ebay sold auction prices but they vary a lot.

Looking at current listings, and comparing them to the last 3 months of actual sales, it seems like $30-$40AU is the going value for the non-standard troopers, of which you have 11. The standard trooper are in the $10-$15AU range, which you have 7.

 

These put the models individually @ 400 - 545AU / 280 - 390USD / 210 - 290GBP), but models ALWAYS sell for less when grouped together, although everything I looked at was bare metal. Yours being primed is a bit of a wild card. This will add value for some, and detract it for others.

 

Personally, I think you should be around the 350AU / 250USD / 180GBP) mark.

Basic issue is that none of the ebay prices for these things are 'fair'. If this is a guy you know who's actually going to hold on to them then I would be personally pretty ashamed to charge over 150 USD for under 20 pewter models, but if he's just looking to sell them on and you're not interested in that yourself then I'd suggest charging more.

 

Also really depends on if you need the money and if this is a 'make a little money while passing them along' sale or a 'make me part with them' sale.

 

When I bought these on Made to Order in 2018 it was:

 

£15 for two snipers

£20 for command squad

£25 for squad incl. 6 troopers, heavy team and 1 special weapon. (not sure, didn't buy this one since I just bought 1 platoon box)

£15 for 2 special weapons. (not sure, didn't buy this one since I just bought 1 platoon box to get the full range)

£75 for the platoon box.

£15 for officer singles

 

So adding 10-20% to that is what I would consider the 'fair' price but if I knew someone who wanted them more than me I would be prepared to sell them at 80% of that.

The fair price is what someone will pay for them. Timing and people's motivations for buying will play a role in the price.

 

Sold 20 metal RT-era stormtroopers a few years ago. They were sitting in a case, I rarely used them and was not looking to sell them off. This guy saw my army, we started talking and he really wanted them for his collection. He offered $300, which I accepted mostly because I knew the models would make him happier than they ever made me.

 

While he probably could have bought them for less on eBay, it was worth it for him to get everything in one go. There was no calculus around fair market value, the value was contained in the models themselves.

 

For Voystrans, they are a little harder to get these days. I'd just ask the person how much they're willing to pay and haggle if you think it's low. $15 a model sounds reasonable to me, if they are truly in good condition (no conversions, no dents to the metal.)

You know, unless you really neeed the money, I'd keep them and use it as a excuse to try the new Kill Team. That list of models seems perfect for a Veteran Guardsmen roster, and a Vostroyan KT would be rad and unique.

Exactly what I was thinking - with the exception of one sniper and the Heavy Bolter, you've got a fantastic Veteran Guard roster there for Kill Team. So unless you either a) really don't want to paint them, or b ) definitely need the money, I'd be making a Kill Team with these :D

It is SO varied, so I feel your pain. As someone who has amassed about 200 or so Vostroyans since they were discontinued I have paid the same amount for 20 guys as I have a plasma gunner. That’s not super helpful, but I think prices generally sit around £10 to £15 per trooper; £35 to £50 for a plasma gunner or heavy weapons teams; £30 ish for other special weapons; and then the command teams really are all over the place.

 

I’m less inclined to be swayed by what is “fair” (and I say that as someone who has bought the majority off eBay at “unfair” prices). They are discontinued and still very much in demand. If people will pay it, then that is the fair price.

 

I would echo the comment that job lots sell for less than the sum of their parts.

Aha I’ve not bought at those prices. I’ve not bought any for a while now, but kept an eye out and that’s what they are consistently going for as individual models. I’m not willing to pay it, so haven’t added to the collection for a while. I think the prices you have suggested are definitely on the lower end, but if that’s what you’ve managed to find then more power to you, bud!
