ThePenitentOne
Just finished the book. Literally couldn't put it it down. It's shorter than I typically like my books- I could have lived in the story for generations. In some ways its brevity makes it simple. But there are places where it approached poetry. And I wasn't expecting the emotional connection I got from it. I understand a few things about the lore differently than I understood them before I started reading. I won't spoil it for you, but I don't mind telling you that it's the BL book I always wanted to write, and I never could have done such a good job. I highly recommend it. Brother Tyler
http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/373081-day-of-ascensionWe generally have allowed duplicate topics for reviews of Black Library books by different authors. This allows each discussion to focus on discussion of the OP's review. Both topics are viable separately, neither needing to be closed or merged. This discussion should be about ThePenitentOne's views on the book whereas the other discussion is about nagashnee's views. There can also be a generic review topic for a book, where anyone and everyone can bring up their own views (in addition to separate discussions for specific individuals' views). Since each of the existing discussions was created as an individual's views on the book, they can remain separate. grailkeeper
He's an excellent author. He's particularly good at writing from a non-human perspective- something he brought to Day of Ascension. He also writes quite fast which is a boon for GW. I'm wouldn't say he's hit and miss but the quality of some of his books is notibly higher than others. Cage of Souls was incredible and Children of Time was excellent. I wouldn't put Day of Ascension in his top category of work personally. If he were to produce something as good as Cage of Souls for 40k- it would have the potential to rival the Eisenhorn books. Hopefully he produces a big baroque 40k tome at some stage.
