I've been plugging away at a combined project of 1k sons/BL.  Both are painted as Black Legion because I wanted to have 2 chaos armies that are more or less interchangable.  I find painting black with an airbrush difficult on chaos because the trim doesn't leave you with enough real estate on the model for any airbrush highlights.  You end up either overdoing it which results in grey models or not having enough highlight that is nearly invisible so then why bother?  In the end I just decided to take a big L on my sanity and do old school 'Eavy metal style with all the edge highlights.  To keep things interesting I added a bright as heck red accent color using my airbrush.

I got a bunch more done but unbased. Will post more pics when I get that done.

Always great to see alternate scheme rubrics - are you planning on only adding TS cult marines?

I make my Chaos interchangeable, but by having the basing all the same, with a common accent colour.

Going to have 20 rubrics so I can play 1ksons with daemon engine support.  If I feel like playing BL... swap the rubrics out for legionaires.

They look great!  Interesting you went with such a high contrast base - certainly makes them stand out.

Im in the early stages of building a terrain set/table with an iceworld scheme.  Seemed like my CSM needed the cold base theme also.

Nice stuff. I see those models and it brings back memories of painting so much Black Legion…. I don’t think I could paint another BL troop. Lol

imlike how you’ve decided on such a uniform look. I do think there’s ways to enjoy airbrush highlights without going too grey, but I see what you mean. I always found the metal trim to be so incredibly fatiguing when painting CSM and you’ve done an awesome job with it.

Every brush stroke of trim brings us one step closer to Terra.

I got this uniform look idea from army showcase pictures.  I always thought the best armies had uniform looks with something extra thrown in.  Black is inherent boring and trim is soul destroying and hard to do much with so I decided on a bright accent colour.  Mephiston red seemed like a good choice to represent the buring hatred and desire for revenge that gives the Black Legion their strength.

Some of my fav Black legion on B&C beside Prots.  Working on my Black Legion warband, and I know your pain.  The only gripe I have is the basing, while a great idea and gives good contrast, do not look uniform between your new and old work.  Which style basing do you plan on going with (I am assuming the latest basing on the CSM legionnaire, but my fav basing is the Thousand sons Sorc)?

I had excess PM bits and wanted to have some HB havocs with the MoN in my Black Legion.  No idea if its competitive but i wanted models that looked this way.

Real nice conversions there, they look the part! I havent seen all the leaks - is there now a benefit to having marks?

Two, in fact, if a unit has an Icon. Mark of Nurgle gives a weird - though definitely effective - defense buff.

That's an epic Paint job I wish I had:

A: The patience for those crisp highlights

B: or the skill

the Nurge bits are a nice touch too and the Base contrasts so well with the minis

Bravo sir

The PM's look great.....and in fact look quite a bit like the "Bringers of Decay" warband color plates. Great job.

Regarding Bringers of Despair in all 4 Marks, the Nurgle guy looks great and I can't wait to see what you do with the rest.

Some nice reinforcements.(sorry I still suck at photos)  I finally have a big ole terminator brick that is the first thing I add to any new list.  I choose nurgle because I quite like the blightlord kit and wanted some black legion nurglenators.  Slaanesh is better but I don't care.   Being -1 to hit/wound is pretty filthy especially if you get them to t6.

Working on khorne raptors now.  I got another 5 coming to make a 10 man blob that will pair up with Haarken.

What a beautiful army! I especially like the Chaos Raptor gentleman who has a Khornate symbol on his head! I have one of those heads and someday I shall use it. :)

Would be great as a traitor guard tank commander head.
