Brother Clavero
So I decided to venture out a bit from my regular acrylic paints and try some streaking grime. I had wanted to use AK interactive but have been reading that they changed their original colour to something darker. Could anyone recommend an alternative or even how to mix up my own batch ? Firedrake Cordova
I've not used any of the enamel- or oil-based grimes, but I would imagine that you could make your own using artist's oil paint in the colour of your choice (probably one of the umbers, sienna, or sepia), and diluting it down to a wash. [Historical modellers seem to suggest this works] In case you missed it, the Vallejo streaking grime is acrylic unlike the others, so will obviously behave differently (not that you get a surprise!), although you can still manipulate it in a similar manner if you use Airbrush Thinner. Tallarn Commander
As Firedrake Cordova mentions, I use a wash of oil painted mixed with white spirits. Here I used burnt umber over a Zamesi Desert basecoat. And here I just used black oil paint mixed with white spirits for my Renegades and Heretics Russ Firedrake Cordova and Brother Clavero 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/373512-streaking-grime-which-one/#findComment-5804801 Share on other sites
Solution sarabando Posted March 15, 2022 Solution Share Posted March 15, 2022 I find using standard artists oils burnt umber is one of the best all around grimes. Just mix it thin with mineral spirits and away you go, super cheap and easy to use.
