War of the Eagle
We started a new crusade in my local Gaming group based in the Vigilus Sector. The Crusade is set right after the events of the first Vigilus campaign books but not incorporating the new ones. It was mostly chosen as a easy sector to base our story that had current lore. I will be using my Raptors for the Crusade of course. I will post my roster and keep it updated. I will also post battle reports and naritive blurbs. Flying 15th Raptors - 95PL Wins 3 / losses 2 Warlord Primaris Chaplain - CP 4 Executioner Chaplain Callen Despot Litanies - Caticisum of fire, Litany of Hate Kills - 8 Exp - 19 Codex Relic - Benidiction of Furry WLT - Calibarine Knight Lvl1: Frenzon injector Lvl2: Deadly charge "Callen has worked closely with many inquisitors of the Order Xenos and Hereticus. As a master marksman he can make amazing shots look easy on the range, but on the battlefield something always happens to prevent the kill. Such as the enemy tripping at the last millisecond or a armored vehical hitting a crater and swerving in the way of the shot. Despite this the Company believes that he eats up the rest of the Company's bad luck and as long as he keeps missing shots theirs will land true." War of the Eagle
**Battle Report 45862.683.76W** :Battle on 3rd Moon of planet Falsehood: [identified foe = Hive fleet Kraken] 50PL - Supply Cache - Winner Raptors Mission account as follows - After entering the Vigilus sector, we where contacted by the sector Govener. We had expected him to give us a rendezvous location for the retaking of Nemenghaust which is why where where called to the Swctor, but he had another task in mind. Having heard the Raptors house a great deal of Death-Watch Vets in it, he sent us to chase down a spotted Tyranid scouting vessel headed for the Jungle world of Falsehood. We quickly intercepted the vessel before it made planet fall but before it was destroyed it launched landing spores to the nearby moon. We of course sent strike teams down to the spores landing areas to halt the Tyranids intent to spread. Raptors Turn One: Our Tanks and ATVs pressed forward and around to aquire flanking shots upon the enemy bioforms hiding behind overgrown ruins, almost vanquishing the Lead Tyranid with a single volley from the Gladiator - Saber Tooth. Tyranids Turn One: The SwarmLord and a squad of Genestealers catapulted themselves across the ruined city at alien speed, and smashed into our lines. The Swarmlord crushing our ATVs under massive claw. Raptors Turn Two: Chaplain Callen and a squad of Intersessors piled out of their APC. The Chaplain called for concentrated firepower upon the SwarmLord but all the firepower at our disposal bounced harmlessly off the beasts psychic shielding. Callen gritted his teeth and lead a charge straight at the Creature but even that bounced harmlessly off as its swords brushed most attacks aside. Tyranids Turn Two: The horrors of the tyranid menace pushed forward, a squad of warriors joining the Genestealers in combat, and Raveners joining the Swarmlord. The Swarm lord fought against the squad of intercessors, but trough luck and trans human resilience they managed to hold firm. The Intercessors where able to find chinks in the monsters armor as its clumsy attacks left it open for counter attack. Raptors Turn Three: The sol Intercessor holding back the Warriors and Genestealers fell back, giving clean shots to the Gladiator to scorch the Warriors from the face of the moon. The Infiltrators took out most the gene stealers and the intercessors fighting the Swarmlord where able to finish it off with precision point blank fire power. They the proceeded to fell the Raveners in the following melee. Tyranid Turn Three: The Tyranids feeling the tide of battle Turning against them turned their focus to securing brood holes (objectives) and planting tyranid seed forums across the ruins so they may yet win the war if not the battle. Raptors Turn Four: The Raptors started to chase the Organisms to prevent their plans of infecting the planet. The Gladiator finishing off the Lead Hive Tyrant and the Infiltrators the Lictor. Tyranids Turn Four: Almost out of Bioforums the tyranids make one last attempt to burrow into the crust of the planet to escape. (moving onto objectives and trying to survive the last turn) Raptors Turn Five: The Gladiator MBT proving its worth once again snipes a pair of Venomthropes hiding in the far back ruins, and Chaplain Callen heroically charges the remaining Termiguamts, splattering their inside across the ground before they can escape. Tyranids Turn Five: ---- =After Action Report= Having Stopped the Tyranid menace before it could take root was a relief indeed for the Raptors and the sector as a whole. But Callen knew that where there was one BioShip there was thousands more coming. Intercessor squad "Pitbulls" suffered grevious wounds, but extra resources where spent to get them back on their feet for the next battle. Little did the Raptors know that while they routed the Tyranids, their plan to plant seeds to birth new bioforums in the future had been sucessful. War of the Eagle
**Battle Report 45862.683.77W** :Battle on Deathworld Falsehood: [identified foe = Necron Rust Dynasty] 45PL - The Ritual - Winner Raptors After the success of the mission to kill the Tyranid scout ship, Callen reported to the sector Governer. He was quite pleased at the swiftness of the results and immediately tasked the Raptors with another pressing concern. Reports had come in showing strong Alien energy signature coming from the planet of Omnis Priom, and the Raptors would scout the area and report what the source of the energy was. After making planet fall, the infiltrators who where sent ahead to get eyes on the epicenter of the energy reported back that a Necron Lord was preforming some sort of tech ritual on an obelisk. The Ritual seamed to be raising scores of Necron warriors from under the planets surface. While only sent to scout what was causing the energy spikes, it seamed like a poor choice to let the Necron Lord raise an army while they where off making reports. Necrons Turn One: Multiple Swarms of mechanical Scarabs raced forward while Warrior and Immortal units held defensive positions. The Necrons started taking pot shots at our forward scouts dealing minimal damage before the Scarab swarms pounced upon the Infiltrators, Intercessors, and our Gladiator. The scarabs delt a couple of wounds, but the ones in combat with the Intercessors where swept aside with ease. Raptors Turn One: Chaplain Callen recited a ferverous littany calling for his Intercessor brothers to cut down their foes. All forces pushed forward, including the Gladiator who used evasive maneuvers to escape the Scarabs. The Gladiator used his frightening arsenal to melt a squad of Skorpeth destroyers to slag. 'Pitbull' squad flipped their assault bolters into full auto and with the guidance from the chaplain cut down a squad of warriors to the last abdominal man. Capt Virgil attempted to snipe the Necron lord while he continued his ritual, but it merely put a hole in his headdress. Chaplain Callen *"Fear not these walking rust heaps men! I have fought them before and they will die. Let the Emperors hand guide you and aim for the power conduits in their chest!"* Necrons Turn Two: Two more units of Necron Warriors pushed forward to cover their master, while he continued his mysterious ritual. The Warriors and Immortals unloaded their firepower into 'Pitbull Squad' bringing down half their number. One of the remaining Scarab squads assaults 'Pitbull Squad" but are killed in quick secession like the ones before them. Raptors Turn Two: Callens voice reverberates forth across the battlefield with another catechism of fire. 'DireWolf Squad' cuts down the remaining Immortals with concentrated melta fire, and the combination of 'Pitbulls' and 'SaberTooth's' fire slew another squad of Warriors. Virgil took another shot at the Necron lord and drove a bullet deep into his chest, much to the surprise of everyone who witnessed it. Nercon Turn Three: The Necron Lord stopped his ritual and turned to face our army finally, gazing death at us as he yelled curses at us. A squad of flayed ones crawled out of the shadows near their lord, twisting and twitching inhumanly. The final squad of warriors and the lord all march purposefully toward us firing a volly before crashing into 'pitbulls' and Chaplain Callen. The resulting whirlwind of metal ended with all the warriors and a few more intercessors dieing. Necron lord *"my name is Nephereh! You lesser beings would be wise to remember it"* Raptors Turn Three: 'Pitbull Squad' falls back from combat with the Necron lord, Callen having fallen out of combat when the warriors died. Virgil takes this chance to slay the Lord himself but the bullet hits the Lords staff and disintegrates. Sabertooth then unleashes a torrent of superheated light and Nephereh blinked away in a flash of green. With their lord dead the remaining Necrons crawled back into their tombs or vanished, leaving an eerily silent battlefield behind. =After Action Report= Picking up their few wounded and getting them back to the strike cruiser, Callen wondered if the Lord died in that flash or they would be seeing him again. They called the Governer to see if he had any more "Problems" that needed delt with or if they could finally head to NemenGhaust proper. War of the Eagle
**Battle Report 45862-683.79W** :Battle on Geotrope XII: [identified foe = Hive Fleet Kraken] 25PL - Mission: Sweep and Clear - Winner Tyranids Tyranids where making a foothold on the planet Geotrope XII, likely called to the planet by a undetected genestearler cult or hive that had infiltrated. The Raptors had been tasked with sealing all the exits to a massive Ore refinery, The facility almost housing a small town of interior buildings within it. Reports indicated that the walls of said facility where thick and only a few exits remained unsecure. If the exits could all be closed a cleansing sweep could be made of the facility with 100% chance of no bioforms escaping. If they failed the tyranids would just relocate and they would have to start all over again. Nids Turn One: The fowl masses of the Hive Mind sprang forth from their Hiding spots around the Ore processing centers and bounded across the streets tward us. Their whipcoil bodys hugging cover and making them hard to line shots up on, so the soilders readied their aim. Luckily the dense urban terrain left the Xenos gun bioforums without lanes of fire aswell. Raptors Turn One: The Raptor forces left the confines of their cover, knowing if they didn't seize the initiative now they would be boxed in. Now having flanking shots on a swarm of gene stealers they unleashed a torrent of bolter rounds down the ally, felling them to a single man. Capt Virgil planted a bolt round trough the head of a Warrior class unit, killing it outright, this put a cold shiver down the spines of his men as a bad Omen. While the mission was to secure all exits, the Auspex showed to many blips to push to far forward recklessly. *Capt Virgil - "Ranged Bioforums in the back -Kerpow- One down"* Nids Turn Two: While leaving cover gave us the angles needed we where now left in the open, a situation the foe would not leave unexploited. The enemy Broodlord and his retinue of Raveners piled trough the openings of a ruined building and pounced upon us. While the Raveners where quick their claws didn't bite deep, but the Brood lord with unholy might and speed ripped a ATVs apart and bested many of our Heavy assault trops in combat. Raptors Turn Two: The one Eyed Owl took a kill shot at the broodlord but the ATVs powercell exploded flinging a door between them saving it at the last second. Executioner Chaplain Callen then marched up to the broodlord and smashed its head in with a mighty sweep of his crozious, the Hunt was on... Nids Turn Three: Sensing the death of their leader the remaining Tyranids began to make a break for it to live to fight another day. They had many of the exits in their grasp if only given time to escape. Raptors Turn Three: The remaining ATV and Callen pushed forward to corner the broods of warriors sheltering behind the mining facility. The facility was to denice to get line of sight on them so they charged forward for a pincer attack. Nids Turn Four: Sensing Callens impatience, the Xenos lured him deeper into the facility, they did not have the numbers to slay him now, but the farther and faster he pushed the less time he could close the noose on other Tyranids. They would gladly give their lives so the brood could secure its continued hold on the planet. Raptors Turn Four: Finally catching the Warriors im a corner the heavy weapon platform on the ATV lanced the finale two abominations into a pool of hissing gore. But far too late Callen relised he no longer hand the men nor the time to secure this facility's exits before the infection spread. Capt Virgil Slew an escaping Genestealer and the Raptors knew with a heavy heart they had failed. War of the Eagle
**Battle Report 45Z62-683.80W** :Battle on Geotrope XII: [identified foe = Custodies] 82PL - Mission: Ambush - Winner Raptors Rumbling down a wooded road In a column, the forward scout Invictor detected movement on the auspexs. Command vehicle Mammoth clanked forward to provide support to the scouts as sensors indicated they where surrounded by a small hoast of foes. Just as Mammoth drew near the forward element squads of golden jet bikes streaked out of the hills on either side. Raptors Turn One: Having already mentally prepared for an ambush, Direwolf squad and Mammoth pushed off the road to the right to make a hole in the incirclement. Luckily the main troop portion of our force in the back was just cresting a wooded hill, and while enemys approached from both sides they dug into defensive positions with good lines of fire. Direwolf Squad opened up on the nearest group of enemy Jet Bikes, melting two to liquid metal. Mammoth and the troop contingent on the hill mowed down a custodian foot squad to the last man in a deafening hail of gun fire. Callen had no idea why the Emperor's Custodians themselves had ambushed them, but it was clear from their ambush and lack of vox communication they where not here to talk. Custodians Turn One: The two squads of jet bikes flew forward and peppered Direwolf squad and the Mammoth with missile blasts, dealing some damage but nothing crippling. A blade champion ran tward the entrenched hill and lunged at a squad of Intercessors, cutting three down where they stood. A gleaming contemptor dread broke cover and its exterior vox blared a challenge to the Scout Invictor as its Keries Assaultcannon <Boof Boof Boof> softened him up. The following charges from the Jet bikes slew one of Direwolfs ATVs, and stripped some armor plates off Mammoth. *Contemptor - "Come face me, foul imitation!""* Raptors Turn Two: Chaplain Callen and his Intercessor escort dismount from their command transport and run tward the Jet bikes, the Repulsor slowly backing away from them to open up with its guns at other targets. Novice Apothocary Joans applies first aide to the Intercessors wounded in combat with the blade champion. Librarian Hector used his physic powers to read the mind of the blade champion, but all he was able to discern was he was not told why they where attacking us, just that it was his orders. The entrenched units on the hill and Mammoth whittled down a couple more Custodies but most of their shots proved ineffective. The Invictor charged out from behind some trees at the Contemptor's provocation but his guns did little damage to the ironclad foe. The Librarian unable to break the honed mind of the Blade champion strikes him down with his force axe, securing this flank. The Invictor lowers his shoulder and charges at the Contemptor, bit it catches him in the cockpit with a haymaker, instantly killing the pilot. Callen charged the larger squad of jet bikes but the enemy warlord teleported in front of him, Callen obliged his crassness by beating him to death on the spot, his force field stopping not a single blow. *Contemptor "Pathetic"* Custodians Turn Two: After seeing their leader broken in front of them the Jet bikes fell back and used repeated missiles to blast Callen to oblivion. The Contemptor marched tward the Command tank laying down covering fire while the Sisters of silence and remaining custodians continued their push on the hill. Joans's quick and efficant treatments keeping the defenders in the fight way longer than the foe anticipated. Raptors Turn Three: Wart hog squad slew the sisters of silence with the help of Pitbull squad. Mammoth and taking shots at the jet bikes and the Contemptor, knocking a bike out of the sky. Pitbull squad then charged the remaining bike and where able to drag it down to the ground. The battle was finally well in our favor, or so we thought. Custodians Turn Three: With only two Custodians and the Contemptor left they made their final push. The custodians shooting and then assaulting Pitbull squad while the Contemptor shot and assaulted Mammoth. The custodians where slain in battle and the Contemptor shoved his fist deep into the engion of the command tank all but destroying it. Raptors turn Four: The crippled Mammoth fell back, feebly firing its guns at the lone foe. The rest of our forces pushed forward with the plan to drag the metal monster down with weight of blows. Unfortunately weapons fire bounced harmlessly off it so Pitbulls Sargent and Librarian Hector charged forward, but its shock absorbers softened the blows to much to deal much damage. He then raised his giant fist and flattened Hector into a bloody pile. Custodians Turn Four: The Comtemptor chuckled as he proceeded to mow down and stomp on the remainders of Pitbull squad except for the sargent. Raptors Turn five: Pitbull squad fell back, and Joans ran forward to heal one of them. Warthog squad peppered the behemoth again, damaging it greatly but it was amazingly still functional. Custodians Turn Five: With one last charge the Contemptor shot and then crushed the remaining members of Pitbull squad before disappearing in a flash of a teliporter beam. The Raptors had won, but they still had no idea why they where attacked and now their forces where in shambles and would have to delay their next mission. To Callen and many of the Raptors it didn't feel much like a victory. War of the Eagle
**Battle Report 45Y62-6U3.81W** :Battle on Geotrope XII: [identified foe = Necrons] 25PL - Mission: Supply Cache -Victory Necrons. After the setback from the previous ambush that had delayed their current mission, The Raptors called in other teams to go in their stead. A crazed Necron Technomancer has been offscounding with imperial raw ores and building heretical tech abominations. The Technomancer and his entourage of mechanical horrors where spotted raiding a refinery, he to crazyed or confidant to hide their presence. Necron Turn One: The Insectoid machines sprang forth with lightning speed as soon as they noticed our presence, they crossed an unfathomable distance almost instantaneously and where atop us. The Wraith class machines shot strange energy weapons at our scout walker before pouncing on it and reducing it to scrap before our eyes. Hector was shocked at the bloody efficantcy and speed of the necron machines. Raptors Turn One: Despite lossing our heavy fire power so early, the main force of the enemy was now wide open for a counter attack. Hector attempted to harness the vast power of the warp to bind the enemy and make them easy pickings, but he lost control of the energy and great pain seared his mind. Honeybadger and Jackel squad fired into the Wraiths to sodten them up before Hector and Jackel squad charged forward and slammed into the centipeede like foe. The Wraiths phasing tech made them incredibly hard to harm, but unbeknownst to them Hectors Armor made him even tougher and the melee ended without much damage to either side. Necrons Turn Two: The technomancer and his swarms of robotic scarabs continued their advance, tho prioritized the collecting of resources than joining in on the frey. The Wraiths continued their rapid clawing and whipping, dismantling a bike and its rider. Hector and the Remaining bikers delt some hefty blows back killing half the Wraiths this time. Raptors Turn Two: Hector once again conjured forth warp energy, almost losing control again, but was able to harness it after exerting himself. The enemy Wraiths where now bound by physic bounds and would be much easier to deal with. Honeybadger squad noticed scarabs gathering ore and shot a couple of them down. Hector and Hyena squad then killed a couple more Wraiths, their self repair protocols making keeping them all down a choir. Necrons Turn Three: The wraiths phased back out of combat and accompanied by the technomancer himself charged into Honeybadger squad. Being leas close combat orientated they thought to whittle our number and protect the scarabs whilst they worked, but thanks to the Helix medic the squad took very little damage. The scarabs continued to quickly haul off ore and metals to an unknown location. Raptors Turn Three: Freed from combat temperarily with the Wraiths, Hector Ordered Jackle Squad to stop the scarabs from looting all the resources. Hector himself went to assist Honeybadger squad, lancing the last wraith with a mind blast. Jackle squad hosed a squad of scarabs with bolter fire before slamming into them, killing that particular squad outright. Necrons Turn four: The remaining squad of scarabs jumped upon Jackle squad, one gripping the face of a rider and exploding violently. The remaining scarabs tried to kill the squad sargent but to no success. Hector then used his force blade to slice the Technomancer neatly in twine, but his core flashed away before he could truly be killed. *hector - "Begone frome here Tech Heritic! Your spawn are no match for the us."* Raptors Turn Four: The Sargent of Jackle squad fell back to guard a pile of ore and Honey badger squad killed the remaining scarab. The enemy was defeated, the ore wearhouses dead quiet. Raptors Turn Five: After securing the remaining minerals and taking stock, we found more than half of them had already been taken away. The mission was Morally won but was regrettably still objectively a failure. They would have to strike harder and faster next time to avoid letting the foe have their way with the battle field.
