I was planning to do some Alpha Legion allies for my Sons of Horus and some Raven Guard as both allies and part of a Shattered Legions force for my Ultramarines, so I guess those plans are going to happen now.

Probably not, as I am a slow enough painter as it is. But I’m almost certain to get the new box at launch so maybe a small allied detachment to go with my XIII.

Not new per se, but new loyalty after seeing the Traitor Ultramarines Warlord trait.

Heresyyyyyy!

I'm not really sure, because I want to know what else will be in plastic. If it's just MkVI (as the primary infantry kit) then I may do a small force to keep The Old Man company. The Old Man being

Made during third edition using the MkVI bits from the tactical squad sprue after I saw the classic Rogue Trader pictures of them.

Quite honestly it is tempting to start a new army with the new edition, but I'm well aware of my hobby ADHD, so I can't claim I'll commit to anything at this point in time. That said, Imperial Fists and Word Bearers are both pretty snazzy.

I am going to be starting a HH all together, but I have so many choices.  I currently have a good sized force of primaris UM and going with HH UM allows me to add some fun firstborn stuff to my 40k army.  But I am also leaning to SoH as they are in the box.  There is just so many options that I am kinda overwhelmed.

Yeah considering mark 6 let alone larger scaled mark 6 doesn't fit in with any of my existing armies I'll be doing a new legion. As it stands they'll probably be Imperial Fists. I'm not entirely sure in what direction I'll take them at the moment. My first thought is Rann leading a handful of phalanx warders backed up by tacticals and dreads in a siege of terra era army alternatively I may go with Camba-Diaz leading the force.

I did just see this:

And I like that look for a beaky.

It's kind of odd to see the pre-Traitor color option be the beakie option min my opinion. Then again I am biased towards their red scheme more.

its because these were long before things liked the mk2/3 armours were easily avalible. These articles are from around 4th ed when we had a vibrant and thriving "pre heresy" community here on BnC. Lots of scratch building as we had a few suits of mk6 from the tactical squad, some metal minis and a single mk4 head from the black templars upgrade sprue.  it was an interesting time. When the badab war books came out and then the heresy books it expanded the rolls of the earlier armour marks a lot more and mk6 was moved to being late heresy/limited issue to the legions. it became synonymous with the scouring era

My faux-OCD need for a sense of uniformity will probably put me away from the early release: not all marks are available, and not all are the same height. Some vehicles are missing, etc...

It's... annoying. Why so? Because I like the idea of controled chaos: everyone bears legion colors, but within a veteran squad you will find one dude on Mk2 armor and another on Mk5, either because or wartime circumstances or personal preference. Some may have colored shoulderpads (as long as legion heraldry allows for it), others just the main legion color. One may display the legion icon, while another may showase the roman numeral. And this is before taking into account bolter patterns and whatnot.

"The sight of these troops, this army with a thousand costumes, fulfilled to the hilt our General's oldest idea of war which is that every man should dress as he pleases if he is going into battle, for that is his right, and variety never hurts the zest of the hardiest workers in every batallion."

— Norman Mailer, The Armies of the Night

All the soldiers are uniform in heraldry, but every one is slightly different in how they chose to display said iconography. It hints to an individuality of the soldier. Every Space Wolf is a hero of sagas, every Ultramarine a warrior-king. The Legionnaires aren't just space-marines, but arthurian knights, savage butchers, serial killers and warrior-poets.

And to me, the main appeal of Heresy is not the gameplay, but the modelling. The game can be good, sure. But even if you play a Heresy game every day, you army will still spend most of it's time on the shelf. Having an army that looks good is, in my opinion, the most important thing. And Horus Heresy, with it's pseudo-historical-but-not-quite thematic is a modeller's delight. This is also why I despise Primaris with a burning passion, and will loudly proclaim they have ruined 40k.

But the new Raven Guard leaks just mentionned Solar Auxilia in their "Liberation Force" Rite of War, meaning the army won't be left to languish forever after all.

I'm inclined to believe there will be a couple books for 2.0 in the future: one for Loyalists, one for Traitors. There is a precedent for it in the form of Adeptus Titanicus and it works quite well.

It is not unreasonable to think that a third book will appear, somewhere later this year that will include:

  • Questoris
  • Legio Custodes
  • Mechanicum
  • Solar Auxilia
  • Imperialis Militia
  • Blackshields
  • Daemons of the Ruistorm

Given how I have no pretentions of using Heresy armies to play 40k (Primaris infestation and all), it wouldn't bother me to focus in Heresy-exclusive armies while I wait for the Legion mess to sort itself. Or just build small allied detachments that could potentially hit the tables one day.

This isn't just my personal wishlist cuz it's floating around in the juice channels, albeit coming from a """very reliable source""" I'm afraid.

Depends on how the launch is handled, if large chunks of my current armies are removed or made invalid then any goodwill I have will be swiftly lost and the thought of spending more money becomes a lot harder. If my armies move into the new edition well then I may start a new one, but with my current pile of shames it’s not going to be new models quite yet.

I started a Word Bearer army. New edition, new Legion.

It's promptly lost two basalisks and the Ordo reductor minotaur options. So much for my siege army.

At some point I will*, definitely. I double up between 30k and 40k, so I can always use more reinforcements (Firstborn) :)

* add them to my backlog...

I'm probably going to do salamanders, which is kind of shocking to say. I've long been vocal about their rules being not great, and the Forgeworld paint scheme really undersells the models.

But their new rules actually gives you tools to work with, and I found a very fast scheme that appeals to me more.
