Depending on how my 40k Dark Angels in 30k colors go, my 30k guys will be more of the chapter for 40k as well. In my mind I dream of having like 5 company's to put out on the table. But probably won't get that many done. But two boxes would be 80 tactical, which is nice.
For me, a lot depends on what options come in the box and what follows it. I'd like to do Raven Guard, but I'd prefer to use assault squads if possible. I want to try a White Scars army too, but for that I'd need bikes available in plastic. Honestly, all of the legions are cool, I just dont have the time, space or money to do them all.

I was planning on staying away from the mk6 armour, but seeing this thread, and not necessarily wanting to pick up two of the legion books, I may be thinking about an Emperor's Children force to contrast with my Iron Warriors. With my Eldar bitz too, perhaps I could go for the battle of Angel Exterminatus and possible grudge matches? Thinking of a late-Heresy pink colour scheme perhaps...

This would also be very Slaves to Darkness - you could explore some Ruinstorm allies too!

I'm really out of touch with all the rumours ... but will I plan to do that second legion for 2.0 that I sidelined ?  Depends, was the rumour of boxnaught removal true and will it stick?  If so, then no :)

Boxnaut removal? Oh woe is me! I was just thinking today how mine could be converted for Heresy. I guess I’m even more out of touch with the rumours. I’m saving my pennies for the launch set - the idea being my son and I will share the models between our existing legions that so far are each too small for a proper game. Alpha Legion/Word Bearer/World Eater/Blood Angels the main candidates. I hope scale is not too much of a jump because I have saved some bits to mix in, hoping to convert some to tactical support squads.

I bought some of the other plastic melta guns and plasma guns for hopefully converting some of the beakies into support squads as well. Like $2 a gun is a bit expensive but eh, don't want to buy the resin ones when they come out.

I also hope boxnaughts are still in. It was seeing a blood angels box naught on display at the GW in Katey Mills Mall that got me into the hobby!

Getting late to this party, but I'll be using the new box set for this Blackshields idea I posted last year in the forums where my force would be proto-Grey Knights who function as Malcador's secret paramilitary force that accompanies the Knights Errant. Hopefully we'll see a book or White Dwarf article that contains rules for them in the future.

I'd love to start a new army but I'm going to be a responsible adult this time though and not go wading into a new project until my Iron Warriors backlog is finished.

I already have a stalled Mechanicum and Alpha Legion project that need attention as well :sad.:.

*daydreams about an isolated renegade Blood Angels contingent, a pre prospero 1k Son army, a pure Firewing all beakie army, and a fully traitorous late Heresy Sons of Horus army with Deamon support*

Not buying the new box set which is perfect for that firewing DA army is basically like losing money!

I am, theoretically, dead set on an Iron Hands army, because I want a nice, monochrome color scheme to paint.

However.

My brain keeps insisting that a Shattered Legion force would be amazing. Iron Hands, Alpha Legion, and maybe some 1K Sons and Emperor’s Children. (I also might throw in an Ultramarines Techmarine in the mix, because I have an old RT-era Techmarine that I never had the heart to strip and repaint.)

There is no rhyme or reason to this force, other than ‘these are my favorite legions’ and I have serious choice paralysis.

At least all the legions I named are primarily one color?

Now that HH will be more accessible I will be starting an IF force. I have decided upon them for several reasons:

  • their aesthetic is broad and isn't very exclusionary. Pteruges and helmet crests, crusader helms and tabards; all of them look appropriate for Imperial Fists. This means that most models won't require much converting to look IF-appropriate. Consider the praetor that was shown off (and pretend that the stupid unhelmeted head doesn't exist); you would have a hard time selling that guy as an Iron Warrior, Iron Hand, et cetera, but he still works as an Imperial Fist.
  • I don't want to be reliant on Forge World units for army flavor. I'd prefer to work with resin as little as possible, and this means that I probably won't be picking up legion specific units. Thus, I want to go for a legion that I could build a flluffy, appropriate list for without using those units.
  • I like sieges, and while I find siege breaking more interesting the IF are still really good at that too.
  • The heavy presence of beakie armor makes sense given connection to supply lines in the Sol System.
  • I have an airbrush now so that makes yellow easier.
  • Their color scheme and heraldry (and established variations of it) are conducive to variety and mixing things up a little throughout the army.
