After having a burn out on making and painting space marines going to show some love for my other main collection, army. First army I started out with 30+ years ago, Biel-Tan.

I have a fairly large collection already that I plan to strip and repaint which is a big, huge task in itself, plus all the new stuff to make and paint. Breaking out the airbrush for this lot though so hopefully should be some good progress. Who knows they might release the rest of the aspect warriors before I'm finished.

To start with, this monster. I neglected my Eldar that much I hand't realised that FW stopped making it some time ago now. However after scouring the internet I managed to bag myself what appears legit FW Eldar Vampire Hunter that was part painted and pinning is pretty much done/holes drilled. Had to strip the front section as the paint layers were quite thick.

Roughly assembled for the pic.

For the base, I'm thinking ruined buildings with some Guardians dotted in and around with a wrecked rhino in between the ruins that was making its way over the rubble. Thinking of having the flight stem (which is a 20mm thick 300mm long clear rod) coming out of the transport section. The base will be round, about 26cm diameter.

So just a quick knock up of the base concept. Thinking old n'rusty Rhino with a similarly aged dead marine next to it just by the side hatch. Taking votes for what loyalist chapter, I'm pretty good at blue... just saying. Mind you, a red would bounce well with the green that I'm going for.

I was thinking Blood Angels, something red maybe a lesser known/done chapter. Purely for what I think will work the green I plan on replicating. Not planning to do GW green for Biel-tan but something lighter. I really like a post shared on goonhammer's page done by someone called silk ?

Thanks, :)   I was so lucky to find it. I sent out multiple messages and one replied with the right response :)

Think I'll go with Blood Angels on this one, FT were considered but after the damage I plan to add that sent this Rhino out of action and the corrosion from time, I need that red to pop where it does show through. Think that FT colours might be a tad dark.

Managed to use the old Baneblade blast template to mark out the approx size, got it cut out and sanded after work, nice n'smooth. Might take the sander to it again tomorrow just to make it a little less wonky looking. Once the mini diorama terrain, rubble is added it's likely won't even notice it.. Looks like a giant pancake right now.

Did you know that template is 25.6cm...what an odd diameter?

I would agree (although it pains me :tongue.: ) that Blood Angels give you more options for red pop effect. You can shade the red to almost black to accentuate it's wrecked state, but you can also make it shine a brilliant red in places to show it's former GLORY FOR THE EMPEROOOR!!
Also Biel-Tan has red accents incorporated into the scheme, so it's an additional pro-argument.

Gonna watch this project keenly

That's 10 inches (25.4 cm = 10 inches or 25.4mm = 1 inch). So not so odd depending on where you live.

Oh dear. lol how the heck did I not click. I live in the UK. I was so focused on cm's when measuring the diameter I forgot to even look at the inches to 1. make sense of the odd amount and 2. to see what the diameter was in inches.

I was tired, does that work?  :)

Thanks both, comments appreciated.

And yes I would of like more updates as well. There was a gap with getting the right terrain, as did have my old cities of death buildings but in the end I felt it's to chunky to mesh well with the flyer's curves. So went back to look at other styles and ended up finding one a little less chunky and incorporates some curves in its design and  a little more detailed. Had to wait for the ebay aution to end and end up getting sniped. Managed to find a buy now short time after.

I was also looking for floor tiles to use on 3d printing but ended up making like 50 tiles by hand out of plasticard.

I have been at work on it since and have progressed some what, so it's getting there :P

Can get some pics up to show where I am with it though.

Think I'm finished, just need to add in the guardians. Will paint and add those in later.

Not exactly what I wanted but close, think once the Guardians are on it'll set it off. Personally, just feels like it's missing something. At the same time don't want it to distract to much from the Vampire. My missus says I over think things?? no idea what's she talking about.

Absolutely no idea

Looks great so far. I think the general setup is good and as you say - still the Guardians will come and add their own stories to the main one with poses and colours... Plenty of room left still for tweaking if you nail down what/if anything will actually be missing then.

Great work!!, I think once you have the Guardians and some paint down on this it'll pop bigtime... the base is to accent the Model, Not steal the show :biggrin.: ...

Perhaps Moss/Lichen/Grass tufts might add something after it's all painted... ??

Cannot wait to see this done

Cheers, Mithril

Thanks both,

So made a few Guardians and blu tacked them in and it's all good. The base is actually almost fully painted, then just the Rhino and Guardians to do. Will certainly be adding grass tufts that I have, will help to show that time has past since the building was destroyed and the Rhino put out of service. The Guardians advancing through the ruins, in my mind and the reason for them being there is to indicate a new battle is about to heat up and the settled terrain about to get churned up.

Ok so after a frustrating time trying to use rust effect on the dead marine I decided to go back to basics. Black, browns, and orange and a red... and some foam.

Is the overall effect for the Rhino, red to rust top down.

Let me know what you think, is the 2nd attempt this evening. It's been a while since I painted a good rust and not using an effect ready to go paint.

So it's been a while, The base has been finished for sometime, hit a bit of a slump, massive 40k clear out, and having issues with my eyes focusing correctly. Decided to stain the rim of the base today and post an update.
