MegaVolt87
I have started work on Custodes for 40k, but I have stalled with how to close out the army at 2k pts. I have at the moment- Trajan, vertus cpt, x5 vertus jetbikes, x9 spear custodes, vexillia. I was initially going to get the FW tanks, but have since changed my mind. I would like x4 of the bolter guys, FW dreads and termi's instead to close out the list. Was wondering which host for such a comp + if I could fit all that in 2k pts. Captain Idaho
Forgeworld Dreads look great and perform well on the table. Their weapons are quality but it's their movement stat that really does it for me. Really catches people out. Honestly I think the Codex Terminators work better especially if you can get them to shoot twice whilst they drop in. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/373803-need-advice-on-custodes-collection-for-9th-ed/#findComment-5814909 Share on other sites
Karhedron
Dual Volkite Contemptor is a strong unit and well worth a look, even after the recent points increase. Multimeltas are another option to help counter the Custodes' lack of strong AT. MegaVolt87
Decided upon consideration of the recent FAQ/ balance changes I put together the following list- Trajan (warlord) WLT- Champion of the Imperium, Master of Material Strategy) Shield cpt on dawneagle jetbike- miscordia, Relic- Castellan's Mark, WLT- All seeing Annihilator, Superior Creation (-1CP The Emperor's Hero's, -1CP Victor of the blood Games) x4 Stagitarium x4 Custodes/ spears x4 Custodes/ spears Vexilius Praetor- castellan axe, miscordia, Vexilia Magnifica x5 Vetrus praetors/ hurricane bolter x5 Venatari/ Kinetic destroyer + Taurus Buckler Contemptor Galatus Contemptor Galatus total- 2,000 pts Battalion detachment, 10 command points, Shield Host- Dread Host I don't know what warlord traits for Trajan and the shield cpt or relic. I was thinking of the Castellan's Mark relic, for the cpt due to I have units that could make use of it. Thoughts ? EDIT- Updated list. .Torch.
Trajann has to take Champion of the Imperium and Master of Martial Strategy. For a Dawneagle Shield Captain I take Lockwarden and Superior Creation. Then Stasis Oubliette and Tip of the Spear as the Relic and Captain Commander trait. This makes him a fairly scary character hunter. Although the Dread Host don't have access to this, I thought it might help to see other builds. Maybe Superior Creation & Peerless Warrior, with Tip of the Spear would give you similar results? Or you could sub in All-Seeing Anhilator if you are coming up against a lot of harder armies. Could be unexpected if you are running all Hurricane Bolters on your bikes. Edited April 18, 2022 by .Torch. I'll wait a bit longer before I start buying stuff to see any other thoughts. nordsturmking
I go with Magnifica instead of defensor on the vexilla because light cover gets ignored more often and dense cover is usually much rarer. I would take 3 man spear units and a 5 man sagg strats a only have the cost for 3 man units and sag wont need starts as often. As for the shield host it totally depends on you local meta lots of marines → DH Tyranids → EC lots of melee → SK my defalut is EC because the 4+++ and rerolls are allways good. MegaVolt87
Good point on the magnifica standard and which shield host for what. Switched out for magnifica. If my dudes die, the strats get cheaper? Or do they always count as their purchased strength regardless of casualties ? Still, I think 4+ man units look good to me vs smaller units for Custodes even if they are less strat efficient. I'll put an order in, its been about 2 weeks on this topic. Thanks everyone. Captain Idaho
It's the current number in the squad, which is good as it'd feelblike a crime to pay 2CP for 3 dudes after losing a couple... It depends what I'm doing, but for front line fighting I favour 5 man squads of Custodes, with objectives holders and support roles going to 3 man. I might add an extra body here and there if points are spare. The 4 man squads could be a nice middle point. Damn, I really want to try that out sometime as well! Within range of the aura's of Trajan and both types of Vexilla. Would be nearly impossible to shift from an objective Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/373803-need-advice-on-custodes-collection-for-9th-ed/#findComment-5819928 Share on other sites
