There’s only so many points to go around and I prefer the Judicar for choppy armies… he pretty much equates to some auto kills.

I had this idea before. But against shooty armies he will not do that many for you and even against melee armies its hard to bring him into combat.

Actually it’s quite easy - put him behind BGV their bases are spread out such that enemy unit can’t get through but he can HI into engagement range. EC has MoA WLT so he can join in as well with fights first.

You'd have to HI around the BGV though right? As the BGV are wider than 1" bases.

Yeah I am trying to get my head round it! The Judiciar can't fit through the gaps but you're saying he doesn't go round, how do you do it? :huh.:

Edit: Ah wait I think I'm being stupid. The Judiciar can fit but a whole unit can't. Is it something like this:

B = BGV

X = 1" hole

J = Judiciar

E = enemy unit

EEEEEEEE
BXBXXBXB

        J

So technically the enemy could charge the Judiciar and conga-line through the hole, or send a character through the hole, but they couldn't fit a bigger unit.

I think the primaris chaplain on bike just got waaaay better against small arms fire thanks to AoC.

This loadout seems great as a guided missile which is built for damage - Tannhauser's bones, Wise Orator, Mantra of Strength, Exhortation of range, Imperium's sword - 6 str 8, D3 attacks on the charge. Ap -1 sucks against AoC but the damage 3 goes well into 3+ save heroes and vehichles.

The tank loadout - Tannhauser's bones, Wise Orator, Litany of Divine Protection, Plea of Deliverance ,Iron resolve - Maximising defensive stats - Iron resolve boosts the number of saves you have to fail to 8, while also giving a 6+++ if Divine Protection fails. Plea of deliverance just to avoid smite and other mortal wound sources. I think you can't get tankier in BT then this guy.

BTW does Plea of Deliverance kind of block smites? I.e. Enemy manifests smite, unit with Plea of Deliverance working is closest so smite has to go into said unit. Smite doesn't damage due to Plea? Might be a nice counter to the maleceptor.

dont forget that you have to hide your units behind buildings. Some terrain will prevent you from such positioning. That was my biggest problem - and hiding is so important in this edition. In addition. my opponents didnt charge except they calculated if it would still work or he had "fight last" too.

But yeah... it theory it was easy as you have shown.

sometimes. But it cost 1 CP and 85 points.

for that amount you can buy a whole Crusadersquad or Sword brethren which could screen too and can used as utility unit in some games...

I dont want to say that its a bad idea or its not worth it. Its just not that easy the better your opponent is.

Hadn't thought of that use for Plea. If you had a big blocker unit it could totally neuter a psychic-heavy army.

Shouldn't judge everything on one game but I have to say Uphold was critical for me yesterday evening. Played Death Guard, and the 5++ didn't come in handy much, once or twice but usually it was AP-3 and AoC meant I was on 5+ anyway. They didn't have much shooting so I didn't need cover, but the mini transhuman came in loads

With that in mind I think I'm going to sub out Honour Vehement, the relic only works if we take Accept so limits flexibility. Swap for Ancient Breviary on the Chaplain so he can take Rites of War instead of WIse Orator.
