As the topic says really what do you guys think?

For me it’s highly likely… they have the CAD design from AI, it’s definitely feasible size wise with the mould because they’re making a Spartan [+Knights are similar size] it’s noted as being one of the most used flyers in the heresy and really why wouldn't GW want the system to have at least one flyer in plastic

I really really hope so. It could pull double duty with the fire raptor, and those resin kits are currently high on mg “most miserable things I have ever assembled in 28 years of playing GW games” list.

Don't think it'd be out of left field, but I do think they'll focus on more core units like Land Raiders and Rhinos first.

I think most of the general Legion range is going to move to plastic over time.

I'm hopeful for at least one FW flier for Space Marines, FR/Xiphon/Lightning.

Frankly, it is mostly due to the plastic SM fliers looking bad. Although, the faction specific ones like the DA/DW ones aren't that bad.

Given the fact that they said in the Heresy 2.0 reveal WarCom post that most of the generic 30k models (ie, not primarchs, legion specefic units) are going to be moved to plastic, I'd say yes its pretty much guaranteed at this point.

Just a call-out on this specific point, I very much doubt that the CAD from AI would be any use at all in creating a 30K/40K-scale version. Firstly if you just blew an AI model up to that scale, it would be lacking a lot of the fine detail we normally expect on our large models.

Secondly, everything from the number of pieces to the layout of the sprues and the thickness of the components would be very different at a larger scale. I have worked on modelling projects before that attempted to produce models at different scales. Generally speaking, the cost you can save by having a CAD that provides the overall shape and proportions of a model only save about 10% of the development costs. Nice enough if you have already decided to model both scales but not enough to significantly change the cost/benfit analysis of a whole new product.

Good to know I imagined they’d be way more cross over than that in design

Yeah me too. I remember being quite surprised and a little disappointed how little reusbaility there was between different scales, and that was with models that were only out by a scale factor of 2.

The suggestion of a kit that could double as either a Fire Raptor or Storm Eagle certainly would have my interest: indeed, a third variant would also be very cool as a new addition, perhaps somewhere between the two?

This is an interesting idea. Perhaps the equivalent of a Land Raider Proteus? Either way, I would gladly buy three to run Angel's Wrath, which I think more folks would run if they had access to this plastic kit.

I’d say it would almost be a given you’d get both in the kit it’s only really a change of guns [extra guns] and a hanger bay “stabilisers”? Anyway you’d expect as much
