I have been doing a lot of list building while I get hyped up for the releases this summer, it seems that with Primarchs and super heavies, 3500 to 4000 point games are very doable and astetically very pleasing to see on the table.

What points levels do you think are the most fun, and what levels do you usually play at?

The games I had/have most fun are 1500p - 2000p Centurion games, that gives more space on a 4' x 6' table and less predicatable outcomes because of the increased manouverability.

Large point (3500p - 4000p) games on 4' x 6' becomes quite crowded (of course depending on army composition) with less room for shenanigans.

3k upwards, but I agree that your average table needs to be bigger as a result of that. Back when I had a good community for 30k here, we used to play on a pretty big, densely covered table. Dont quite know the measurements but it must've been something like 2.25m by 1.60m.

Normally I play 2500 (maybe 3000) as it allows a good amount of room to fit cool stuff in without dragging the game out too long. 1500 or so means the game is short and brutal (which has its own appeal) but heresy is designed (or at least seems to be) for higher level points so you may struggle to do anything less than 1500 (and even then the lists are restricted).

For OG HH 2.000 - 3.000 pts.

Can't really make any assumptions for 2.0 since a lot of points values have changed, as has the usefulness of certain units. Plus the points values we've seen in the leaks might not be the final ones. So, unnecessary to speculate.

Around 2.5K for me - or around 100 points per square foot of table if you're not playing on a 6 X 4 to allow for a little movement, infiltration etc.

I also find it's roughly an optimal for list building as you're still making compromises with unit selection, rather than taking everything.

1,500-2,000 for centurion games, and 3,000-4,000 for normal. But for larger a games a 6x8 table is best.  And for the best fun 30,000+ per side plus games with six or more people playing on as big a table as possible!

3k is our usual sweet-spot.

Bumping up to 3.5k for games where "a LoW" is allowed. Be that a glaive, stompa, primarch, whatever...

That system has done really well for us so far. We both like lots of infantry, so the games don't run away at that points level.  Decent sized clashes, with decent lists allowed at that level. There's enough points room for a well-rounded force, or something like armored breakthrough and that RoW's LR's all around, etc, etc...

We'll see how that fares in 2.0, especially final release version. A lot of the primarchs seem less crazy (For example: no more "EVERYTHING GETS OUTFLANK" and he himself a powerful OB, for Horus anymore) so they may go down in points and not feel like they need that "LoW sized game" delineator we use. At the same time, we don't use primarchs much because it feels much better to have "Yet another battle in a galaxy-wide conflict" storylines rather than something that would be important enough to have a primarch show up, let alone two.

About 1k points, preferably in Zone mortalis, makes the 7th edition rules a lot less awful as it rules out a bunch of the more egregious problems but gives you enough room to make some interesting choices.

I’d echo the 3k mark as being ideal - although I’ve had brilliant games in the 2.5k-4k ballpark too!

3k feels like a nice amount to take lots of fun things and still play quickly: I imagine that’ll be same with the new ruleset!

1,500-2,000 for centurion games, and 3,000-4,000 for normal. But for larger a games a 6x8 table is best. And for the best fun 30,000+ per side plus games with six or more people playing on as big a table as possible!

30k per side must be amazing! That would be just so visually impressive to see.

Duh, it's in the name, 30'000 points is the ONLY right answer.

(2k usually but I liked playing more points, 3-3.5k with my friends when it's a 2v2 or 2v1 - like when someone just started playing so they take a smaller detachment as an ally to my main one, it creates an interesting unpredictability on the table)

1k - 1250k per side for ZM is what my league mostly plays.

~3k is fun because you can take all the toys, but for normal games we stick to ~1850-2000k which means you gotta make some decisions about what to bring without worrying too much about super heavies.

2k for non primarch games. +2500 for 'anything goes'.

I feel like you need a large point game to run a primarch and not feel like it eats a large part of your points ( Sang is quite expensive)

For us, it was about 2,500 points to 3,000 points, and for those new to 30k/HH/Age of Darkness, keep in mind that a lot of units are more expensive than in 40k, so don't worry.  For instance, as Mechanicum my MVP units were around 250 points for 3 (multi-wounded) models, I'd take 2 squads, so that's 500 points right out of the gate.

It varies from faction to faction, but just observing other players as well as myself, Heavy Support slots were the most precious.  All the really fun stuff seems to be there.
