I really like the effect on the gant. I think I need larger cracks on the tervigon, so next time I'll expirement with my ranger crackle effect. Still more to paint, but this scheme is fast to paint :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/374051-a-bugs-life-2022-a-tyranids-painting-challenge-final-results/page/3/#findComment-5841290 Share on other sites
Xenith
The GW crackle is supposed to crack larger if you apply it thicker...but obviously you can only go so thick on an actual model. The small ones you have on the termagant would probably be great on larger things too - though with the complexity/density of your pattern, the fine craks might get lost? Rusted Boltgun
A small WIP update for my 'stealers. Greatest amount of progress on the back four. The wash on the bone areas was a little heavy handed so I might re-do and change my approach. ThePenitentOne
This post was recognized by Xenith! ThePenitentOne was awarded the badge 'A Bug's Life 21 Ripper' I lost momentum after the downtime, and I'm recovering from Covid, so this pledge is getting up later than I would have liked. I, ThePenitentOne vow to complete this unit of six Purestrain Genestealers. Hopefully, this will be the first of three vows... Baby steps... Xenith
Made some progress on my Parasite, this one should be quick to do, then I've also lined up my Exocrine on the painting table. Just now, Xenith said: Got started on the Parasite last night, small model and easy to paint, I've blocked in the blue exoskeleton, and will tackle the rest tonight. I also tested out Kroxigor scale vs my akhelian mix on the base to see if I could fully switch over to kroxigor, as I might do with my Alpha Legion, terrible photo under bad light, but kroxigor is on the left, akhelian mix on the right - the kroxigor is just a little too green for my nids, so I'll stick with the current recipe. Not 100 %on either but they are done for now. Will likely revisit in the future. Highligh is wrong grey as paint had dried out. Lictor i think the foilage helps but scheme didnt go to plan. For bigger cracks on a smaller surface, apply a layer of pva glue (white Elmer’s type) to the area before applying the crackle paint. I do this for flaking rust on vehicles. Bon appetite! Rogue
I'm afraid I forgot to vow this over here (I blame the upgrade downtime, and general busyness), so apologies if you feel like I'm gatecrashing. But I figured I'd share this Goliath I just finished off today. Rusted Boltgun
A quick and dirty WIP shot I had a couple of the newer sculpts in my batch but I didn't feel they would work well with my 'classic Space Hulk' scheme so I have switch in two from the alcohol bath to make up my total of sixteen. I'm still trying to work out how to do my claws and teeth while tidying up the second half for washes. Xenith
I'm a big fan of wraithbone undercoat with skelton horde for classic bone coloured teeth, and if you let it pool in a controlled manner, you get some gradation to the colour also. They're looking good! Xenith
I've managed t get the base blue down on my last 2 models, the tyrannocyte and the Mawloc - both were alread yassembled, so it was a messy job, I need to go back and tidy up the white, then stick the puple in then the backs of both models are broken! Cutting it fine! Xenith
I call my vow complete! That was a last minute slog, or so I thought. I forget how fast my scheme is with contrasts now, and since I've started using pure magos purple in the armour recesses, these were done quickly. Xenith
And with 12 days to go, a little catch up/warning post - we're almost there, and have virtually no completions: Total PL/Member/Vowed, with pic/Complete Vow# 1/2/3/4/5 @Brother Lunkhead 33/0/0/0/0 (0) @Brother nathan 10/13/0/0/0 (10) @conscriptboris 25.5/0/0/0/0 (0) @Plague _Lord 5/0/0/0/0 (0)@Rusted Boltgun 16/0/0/0/0 (0) @ThePenitentOne 6/0/0/0/0 (0) @Trokair 11/0/0/0/0 (0) @WarriorFish 4/2/0/0/0 (4) @Xenith 34/0/0/0/0 (34) This is understandable given the ~3week break in foruming due to the upgrade, and the awesome weather we've been having, at least in the UK, but we're still at below 50% completions. How are everyone's vows going? On another note, I can show off the snazzy badges made for the event by @Grotsmasha - these can be displayed in your sig, and as a new feature of the forum, will be awarded to your profile, and be displayed in the badges section, also awarding forum points towards progression.
