I want to make a new army for Ninth Edition, and it will be a fluffy Alpha Legion warband. What codex units do you think would befit a lore accurate Harrow? I know Alpha Legion like to buck a lot of Chaos tropes/worship, but what springs to mind immediately?

They actually don't buck the Chaos tropes. There's an Alpha Legion Possessed in Heralds of the Siege. A Daemon Prince and a spawn in Hunt for Voldorius. An entire army of Legionnaires & cultist auxiliaries dedicated to destroying Ultramarines descendants in Sons of the Hydra.

In order to understand a thing, one must embrace all of it's aspects... Seriously dude, Alpha Legion work no matter what you put in a list and the colour scheme is super awesome! Go for gold and do what ever fits your style.

Yep, i concur with the dudes.
Doing random :cuss is the most Alpha Legion-y thing one can always do because of the fact that the Alpha Legion got separated in different cells (warbands) and everyone kinda does what ever they want even before the scouring. Some might have turn to chaos completely, some may be fighting it's corruption in the warp, others might stay raiding in realspace, others might be helping innocents.

Everything applies and everything is actually acceptable because they are the most independent of legions!

 

As for me, my alphas are very corrupted (only use csm kits) and are working with a Dark Mechanicus leader (using skitarii as my troops, an admech conversion as my disco lord and some robots as my obliterators) to defile worlds and raid for technology wherever they can.
