Our_baz 40K Salamanders and other WIPs

One of main enjoyments in the hobby is Salamanders both 30K and 40k. I’ve had a 30K WIP for quite some time which I have neglected for some time. Main reason due to me being a bit of a butterfly and getting distracted. With the update here I see this as opportunity keep me focussed on my Sallies both 30K and 40K to get them completed so I can have a force I can use on the tabletop at some point.

First up some heavy intercessors

I’ve also wanted to try Army Painter speedpaints for while now especially on PA. So I thought I’d share my experience here. Hell blaster below, was primed with Halfords grey primer, then I did zenethial with grey seer. So a very subtle change in colour.

Ive then applied magic blue on the plasma coil and grim black on the armour.

You can see the black has covered really well especially on the flat areas. It has pulled at the edges but it’s not too pronounced. The finished is very matt. The blue has done what you would expect.

next thing will be to tidy up some messy bits, this will give me a chance to see for myself the reactivation issues these paints have.

Thanks for looking

I did some further playing around with the Army painter speed paints last night. I've watched a number of You Tube video's whihc discuss the issue of the Army painter speed paints reactivating when you paint over them, this was also mentioned to me by the owner of my FLGS that they also reactivate with drybrushing. So I've decided to see for myself.

This work was done 24hrs after the speed paint was applied and allowed to dry. I  performed a light(ish) dry brush using Russ Grey. I didn't notice any "reactivation" of the speed paint. The grey were applied hasn't darkened nor have I noticed any black residue on the brush. So dry brushing looks safe to me anyway.

The next thing I wanted to tackle/test was reactivation when you paint over the speed paint. As I had applied speed paint into the ribbing on the power armour and on the vents on the backpack this needed touching up large.IMG_20220630_091403.jpg.dfda01be5d6a165538841b99f8968c0b.jpg

The touching up was fine I noticed no bleeding or reactivation issues. Couple of cavetas here. I was painting Skavenblight Dinge onto the ribbing so it is debatable whether you would see any bleeding there. But there was no bleeding on the vents and backpack when I touched up with leadblecher. Also no issues were I needed to touch up the blue near the plasma coil with grey seer. I will note that although I use a wet pallet, I didn't thin these paints. They were added directly from the bottle to the wet pallet without any thinning with water, so they were quite thick compared to what I normally use.

Nearly done with these two. Can't have Sallies without some flame weapons. Heavy flamers to go with these two are done. Just lava base to go, although the rock may need another coat of Grim Black speed paint as looks too "grey" when a little wet. First time using speed paint over cork so that could be an issue.

Spoiler
