I feel like it's not a bad idea to have a general tactics thread for DTs especially with 2.0 moving a few things around, and the change to Drop Pods. For example, I was disappointed to see that I can no longer buy a Termite in the FA slot and throw, say, a melta support squad in - so what should I do instead?

I also wonder about Rhino armaments. At this stage, the multi-melta seems like a cost sink for something that will probably only fire once, and I have to ask if it's worthwhile as a distraction. The combi-melta seems like a superior option every time.

More broadly - are DTs as valuable this edition given the changes to movement?

I think they're still very valuable, depending on your build. They get your troops to the middle of the board quickly, or drop off a high damaging support squad closer.

I don't think that the MM on Rhinos are that useful, you're right that the combi-melta is a better choice.

In a 3500pts game a 35pt Rhino is just 1% of your points. I think for units you want to get somewhere quickly, like TSS, they are good.

I put Havok launchers on mine. Not because they are good, but because I like the look of them.

Multimelta still seems like a VERY solid option.

I didn't play one game in the new edition but the last 7 years or so I very often played a TSS with Plasma Guns in a Rhino with dozer blades and it worked just fine. And I am sure it will work for Melta, Flamer and Charger squads as well.

And tomorrow I hopefully will play first 2ed and play a tactical squad in a MM Rhino with dozer blades. Just to see if that works. That loadout got cheaper by the way even with the more expansive MM. We'll see.

I cant see not bringing them. For tactical squads I can see adding a MM to provide some AT fire for a squad that typically has none. If I was using it for other units it would depend. For TTS units I wouldnt bother putting anything on them given how close to the enemy they need to get them. Other units just depends. Havocs are a nice long range add on as well and sometimes actually work out well. I watched a battle report recently where the havocs on the guy's rhinos seemed to be killing more than the units inside over and over.
