Lord Krungharr
Played my first practice game this weekend. I had my Perturabo in there but the other player only had 1500 points, so I took out some stuff. Didn't realize I couldn't field a Primarch due to the points limitations at 1500. I got tons of bits to make a kitbashed Mastadon, thinking I could carry Perty and bunches of Terminators into the fray...but now I'm not sure what to make. I wouldn't be able to field them both until a 4500 point game Spartans are pretty solid, but for when not taking a Primarch, are any of the 500pt or less Lords of War worthwhile (I play Iron Warriors)? Not quite sure. The Typhon is just a Spartan but with a big blasty cannon and no transport capacity, and more points and not even a superheavy. I'm kinda leaning towards a Dreadclaw, and/or a Kharybdis and/or Assault Drill to take meltaguns and chainfists to where they need to go. Or is my cold-logic room temperature? Perhaps one those fancy Knights (if 500 or less points) might be worth looking at for a big scary alternative to running the Primarch? SmorcInc
Frankly I think any LoW/primarch at 2k is a bit rude, but realistically the smaller point lords of war exist mostly to be a slightly upgunned heavy support slot. If you want something similar to a LoW but at a reasonable price and effective enough unit, there's always the Kratos. Give it a Flare Shield and it'll be almost as durable as most of those Lords of War. I prersonally am enjoying the 4 lascannon sponsons with melta cannon primary to have it churn out 8 high strength high ap shots a turn, but its other guns are more flexible albeit not that great into marines. Gorgoff
A The point restriction is there for a reason. B No, they are way to expansive. Big games big toys. Valkyrion
The LOW and Primarch restrictions are there for competitive and pick up games so that everyone is following the same rules. If you and your opponent both want to run a Primarch and a Fellblade at 2000 points then go for it, it's just as fair for both players, but you'll probably find that the game is a bit rubbish and will just come down to whichever side loses their big toy first will lose the game and in future you'll want to stick to the normal rules. 4000 points is probably different - having read on here and various other sites (there are other sites?!), you want to be aiming for 2000-2500 points of a 'normal' army, then add your extras on top. I see no reason why you couldn't field a primarch, a mastodon and a typhon once you've reached that 2000-2500 or so points cap, provided your opponent can either do the same or agrees with it.
