new kroot in kt!!!

Recommended Posts

I'm intrigued! Hope there's lots of options to make some cool Kroot.

I can't remember reading in the article, is it a brand new kit or upgrade sprue? It would make sense to be a brand new kit given the age but the recent Cadian upgrade sprue makes me doubt.

Would also be incredible if we saw the range expand, the Chapter Approved Kroot merc list looked like a lot of fun but admittedly that was about kitbashes and conversions so GW may not like to go that route.

It's a full new kit. I think this box is the start of "season 2" of KT, so it's launching with a box just like Octarius.

I hope the kit allows you to take some weird alien weaponry. Boltguns, Shuriken weaponry, power weapons, Needle rifles, etc. Kroot scavenging small arms and techy gadgets is kind of my preferred warband idea.

Quick reference image from the preview. I'm very excited by the appearance of the Kroot – they've been a favourite of mine for years, though to my regret, I've only managed to paint a few individuals here and there. Brian Nelson's sculpts are top tier, and the lore, while not as developed as I'd like, is awesome.

Given the far more open nature of 8th and 9th edition, I'm actually surprised it's taken GW so long to produce a standalone group of the mercenary, wide-ranging Kroot. Strikes me that they'd be ideal to add to (say) a Chaos, Guard or even Ork force.

Anyway, the appearance of a Kill Team is awesome – I was hopeful (and pleasantly surprised!) when they turned up in the Compendium, and I'm mostly liking what I see here. From what we see here, it looks like they've translated the elements very faithfully across from the Kroot themselves, which hopefully means that these will mix in nicely with existing Kroot carnivores.

Not such a fan of what I presume is the Kroothound. The lack of a neck takes away from the avian look of the older ones; though perhaps this is another type of krootform (a Krootbulldog, perhaps). I would also have liked to have (finally) seen a Shaper that wasn't waving a rifle in the air. It's a cool pose in isolation, but so limiting.

Other than those minor objections, I think the rest is awesome, and I'm excited to see more of them. The pestle and mortar(?) made from skull and bone on the Shaper is cool, and the additions of the cloaks is a nice touch – I wonder if that's part of all of them? Might mean that this kit has a dual-build as some additional form of Kroot unit besides Carnivores (a bit like the Kill Team Eldar form supplementary choices, rather than straight-up replacing Guardians).

It looks like there is already a much wider variety of poses and equipment in this kit, as we might expect from a Kill Team, and it's this aspect that interests me most. The poses look more restrictive – though this also allow for more varied and natural poses.

More info please, GW  :)

Kroot Tracker and Pech’ra companion. Great pose on the model, and looks like the cloak/clothing is present here, too. If this does allow for a second standard carnivore, I can see some cool potential poses.

Info on Warhammer Community makes it sound like a characterful ‘spotter’ type figure. Sounds like the Pech’ra will be a token rather than separate model, which is sad, but on the plus side, should allow for conversion!

I spied a Close Combat specialist -dual blades, a long scoped sniper and a heavy weapon kroot  with that Huge triple crossbow launcher... I wonder what that rifle/ vertical Crossbow does differently ??...

As to the Shaper, I'm thinking of removing the pulse rifle and green-stuffing a closed fist as a squad signal instead  I too dislike the "Tusken Raider" weapon pumping above the head look...

I'll take the Hounds no matter simply due to being Plastic , I really hope this opens the Door for a Stand alone force of Kroot...

Posted by @Evil Eye here, is a new video showing details of the Kroot Kill Team:

I posted a rundown of my thoughts on the other topic, but though it's probably more relevant for discussion here. Would love to hear your thoughts and reactions to the Kroot.

  • Kill-broker – a leader of some sorts; presumably slightly lower in status than a Shaper/
  • Cold-blood – dripping with bionics, I'm guessing at a veteran; perhaps a second-in-command like the Imperial Guard confidante.
  • Heavy Gunner – rather goes without saying. We've seen at least two weapon options for this model, neither of which are immediately identifiable as anything familiar to me.
  • Pistolier – again, fairly self-explanatory.
  • Long-sight – sniper. I'd guess at a second build as a standard Warrior.
  • 2 x Warrior – bog-standard kroot; both characterful sculpts. Since they're previewed here, I'm assuming there aren't more specialist options for these on the sprue, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong. Worth noting that they're also no longer called 'Carnivores' – or has that been the case for a while?
  • 2 x Hounds – again, fairly straightforward. Nice enough, but the only minor disappointment for me, as I prefer the aesthetics of the older sculpts.
  • Cut-skin – seemingly a close-in specialist, armed with a knife and pick, by the looks of things.
  • Bow-hunter – Kroot with a bow. Almost certainly some sort of silent weapon, interesting to see. Again, another option that I suspect has a 'normal' kroot warrior build.
  • Tracker – Lovely kneeling kroot sculpt. Very characterful.

I wonder if the Cold-blood is a mechanic? Maybe a Kroot who manifested the Ork genetic memories in some way?

Anyway, there's some cool new art up that shows a level of diversity we haven't really seen in the Kroot before:

Top-left looks Aquatic, bottom-left... spikey! Plus Green Kroot and winged Kroot, which have precedent already.

The article also kinda makes it sound like they might be changing how the genetic stuff works? Previously it was slow, where the genetic assimilation played out in a family group over the course of  multiple generations. This article makes the Kroot sound more like... Kirby.
