turtlarn
Hi everyone! Many many years ago I played a bit of fantasy battles, and I just re-discovered the joy of these little plastic bundles of joy. As I have a few friends who play 40k, and after I realised that fantasy battles is dead (?), I set my eyes on 40k and an old favourite - Space wolves! I've always enjoyed the painting and modelling part of the hobby a bit more than actually playing, so a lot of my choices in the list I've put together so far are based on that fact. That being said, I do want to have an at least somewhat competitive list in the context of friendly games (it's no fun being run over..). What I've come up with so far is a batallion detachment with pretty much everything but the HQ done. I'm also at a bit of a loss when it comes to spending my CP, so any tips there would be much appreciated. As I mentioned, the choices below are based mostly on what models I like, and the gear I feel look nice, but I've at least tried to put together something that is playable as well. Any pointers on the existing list are very welcome, but I guess my biggest concern is where I should go when it comes to HQ. Are any of the characters great for the list? How do Rune priests play? Anyway, on to the list: Space wolves [1,469pts] Troops [427pts] Assault Intercessor Squad [129pts] 5x Assault Intercessor: 5x Astartes Chainsword, 5x Frag & Krak grenades, 5x Heavy Bolt Pistol Assault Intercessor Sgt: Plasma Pistol, Power fist Assault Intercessor Squad [134pts] 5x Assault Intercessor: 5x Astartes Chainsword, 5x Frag & Krak grenades, 5x Heavy Bolt Pistol Assault Intercessor Sgt: Heavy Bolt Pistol, Thunder hammer Blood Claws [164pts] 6x Blood Claw: 6x Astartes Chainsword, 6x Bolt pistol, 6x Frag & Krak grenades Blood Claw Pack Leader: Power fist Wolf Guard Pack Leader: Lightning Claw, Lightning Claw Elites [424pts] Wolf Guard [134pts] Jump Packs 4x Wolf Guard, Bolt pistol, Power axe Wolf Guard Pack Leader: Power axe, Storm shield Wolf Guard Terminators [165pts] 4x Wolf Guard in Terminator Armour: Lightning Claw, Lightning Claw Wolf Guard Terminator Pack Leader: Lightning Claw, Lightning Claw Wulfen Dreadnought [125pts] Fenrisian Great Axe and Blizzard Shield, Storm bolter Fast Attack [210pts] Cyberwolves [30pts] 2x Cyberwolf: 2x Teeth and claws Cyberwolves [30pts] 2x Cyberwolf: 2x Teeth and claws Thunderwolf Cavalry [150pts] 2x Thunderwolf Cavalry: Power axe, Storm shield Thunderwolf Cavalry Pack Leader: Power axe, Storm shield Heavy Support [188pts] Long Fangs [188pts] 4x Long Fang: 2x Plasma cannon, 2x Missile Launcher Long Fang Pack Leader: Power fist, Boltgun and Bolt Pistol Wolf Guard Pack Leader: Power axe, Storm shield Dedicated Transport [220pts] Impulsor [110pts] 2x Storm Bolters Impulsor [110pts] 2x Storm Bolters I'd also like to apologise if the formatting is weird or anything. Kassill
Welcome to the pack! It looks like you have a good starting collection here. As far as the list goes, for your goals everything here should perform fine. Rune Priests are quite strong in the lists I've seen recently. The ability to make an enemy fight last is strong when facing a nasty unit or to ensure you get the kill. There are many flavors, some like Jump Pack ones for maneuverability while others find the phobos cost efficient. For characters, Logan and Ragnar are both quite fun but can be glass cannons in a lot of matchups. Karhedron
You have fast units in the form of Thunderwolf Cavalry and the Jump WG so maybe a character on Thundewolf or a Primaris Biker Chaplain would be good to accompany and buff your fast units. Torin
Welcome to the Fang. The list looks good. Close quarter would not be a problem for you. But having abit long range support unit would be good. Should your opponent be a vet player.. your long fang is the first to go. Thats my 2 cents. otherwise its solid enough. Karhedron
One thing I notice is that heavy armour may give you a problem as most of your weapons are AP-2 or less. I would look to include a few multi-meltas in there, maybe even replace the missile launchers on the Long Fangs as these are not great in 9th edition. Also replacing a few power axes and lightning claws with Thunder Hammers would likely help. yan
I think a chaplin on bike and a jumppack rune priest are both really good for your list. +2 to charges and reroll all hits are great with your twc and wg. the rune priest can give cover saves (great with armour of contempt and cloaked by the storm strat) and fight lasts. If your playing named characters the i still like bjorn a lot. He can go well together with the wulfen dread and impulsors. but gearing up a captain on bike or jumppack is also a lot of fun!
