Hi all. Still getting used to the new rules and have a pretty basic question.

In the Crusade Force Org Chart, you are mandated to have 1 HQ and 2 Troops. The 2 Troops are Compulsory.

If you expand the force from there, is there any way to make additional Troops to be Compulsory, or do they have to be Optional? I am thinking of the wording for certain Rite of War, especially Pride of The Legion, where any Tartaros/Cataphractii Terminators can become Troops, but only the Compulsory Troops get the "Line" rule.

So If I take that Rite of War, take my Cataphractii Praetor as HQ and then take 1 unit of 10 Cataphractii Terminators and 2 units of 5 Tartaros Terminators, whilst I can make all 3 of them Troops I can only choose 2 of those units to be Compulsory "Line" Troops? Meaning that 1 unit won't be the equivalent of 40k Objective Secured.

Sorry for being dull!

Some rites will increase the number of compulsory troops, but there aren't any other ways to increase the compulsory units in any given detachment.

You can't get more than 2 terminator units with Line in Pride of the Legion. You can, instead, take other units with Line; tacticals, recons, breachers, despoilers and the legion command squad.

And Line isn't the equivalent of objective secured. Everything scores in 40k, but obsec units trump non-obsec; you can't even score unless you have Line in 30k.

Jap, thats right, but you can expand your number of scoring terminator-units by getting a Legion Terminator Command Squad, whose Legion Standard gives them Line and Getting a  Legion Herald, whose Legion Standard also gives his Unit Line, so you could at least have 4 scoring Terminator Units

Beautiful! Thank you so much.

In the old rules, Terminators, Veterans and Seekers all had “implacable advance” which made them scoring didn’t it? And now they aren’t without a specific rite of war? Maybe they needed the de-buff, but I might need to rethink my choices (haven’t bought the army list book yet)

The unit type 'Line' denotes a scoring unit now. Everything else is a denial unit.

It's likely to encourage more basic troops to fulfil objectives. Though some Legions have ways to make some of their specialists Line, and others don't. The application of Line is not entirely consistent outside of the core troop options like Tacticals, Recon Squads, etc.

Yeah, some Legions promote their specialists to line via RoWs, others have them in their Profile and others get them thrue their special/unique charackters...

And some Legions don't get anything of the above!

Seems "fair" to me!
