Been using a 20-strong neophyte squad with 4 seismic cannons, 4 flamers and perfect ambush supported by a Primus with alien majesty to devastating effect for my past few games. Even use alchemist supreme to throw 5+++ on them gives them the relative staying power to ride out auspex scan.

It's even solid against monsters with +1 to hit and wound and re-roll 1s to hit and wound, and ignores cover, it will evaporate a large unit of intercessors and even make tougher units suffer.

Was that a yes on the use of Shotguns? I was planning to do something similar with a neophyte unit. Haven't assembled them yet but originally was going for autoguns. Just wanted to know. before I put it together.

With Perfect Ambush, you have to nominate an enemy unit within 12" as your target (for crossfire and exposed). So it broadly makes sense to go with shotguns, as they outperform autoguns at 12" or less.

You could maybe make an argument for autoguns if you were worried that you wouldn't get all 20 neophytes down within 12", or because they'd provide a greater threat range in subsequent turns (assuming they're still alive), but I'd go for shotguns for this sort of thing, and save the autoguns for backfield shooting.
