Xenith
I see a lot of noise about Line units being critical as they are scoring and denial, however this doesn't seem to be what's written in the rules, and I wanted to make sure I have it right. p306/307 Objective markers - controlled by a scoring unit, contested by enemy scoring OR denial. Objective zones/areas - Controlled by a scoring unit, contested by enemy scoring units ONLY. Scoring Units - have the Line rule (with the exceptions listed) Denial Units - "Any other units in the game" That last bolded part there is key. This means that my line scoring unit can have their objective contested by anything, and Line itself doesnt override anything? I guess I'm too used to Objective Secured in 40k. So am I right in the interpretation that if I have a LINE unt in range of an objective, and my opponent has any other non-line unit also within range, neither of us count as controlling it, as while their denial unit cancels out my scoring, they dont have a scoring unit of their own? I guess this would reinforce the idea of clearing objectives with specialists, then holding them with Line, right? LameBeard 1 Back to top
Valkyrion
That's how I understand it. If you have an objective with NOT LINE in range of it, big deal, nothing happens. If you have an objective with LINE in range of it, and I have NOT LINE in range of it, still nothing happens. If you have an objective with LINE in range of it, and I have NOT LINE nowhere near it then you control the objective. I don't know if it matters if your LINE unit has 20 models and my LINE unit has 2, I don't think it does and can't recall seeing anywhere in the rule book, but to be honest, whilst the rules themselves seem well presented, the book is a jumbled mass of page flicking and indexing. bushman101
I read it the same. I figured it was a feature to make the game more brutal and push for Sweeping Advances
SkimaskMohawk
@Xenith Quote I see a lot of noise about Line units being critical as they are scoring and denial, however this doesn't seem to be what's written in the rules, and I wanted to make sure I have it right. ? Line units both score and contest objectives; it's exactly what's written in the rules. But yea, you guys basically figured it out; scoring units can score uncontested objectives, but any scoring or denial unit can contest it. The model count doesn't matter, the lack of line doesn't matter; being within range is the only important thing. It's very much not the 8th+ method of scoring and super-scoring, with the objective always being held by one side. I was more puzzled at people saying line is necessary in an army for scoring and denial, whereas the rules say any unit can be denial - I wanted to check my reading of it was right!
