Gander's Blood Angels

So after purchasing the new AoD box I had to think what legion(s) I wanted to paint. Though about adding to my large Death Guard army but decided I wanted a change and eventually opted for the 9th Legion.

So I present the command Squad of the 14th Company of the IXth Legion;

 

(I'm more of a painter and not a gamer but I am aware that some imagery such as the chalice on the chainsword may not be consistent with 30K lore but I'm going with the rule of cool here)

Really lovely work here, I love it! You did great work with the painting and conversions, as well as the basing!

These are great. I don't know what it is, but they have a really 'classic' feel to me, like I'm looking at a White Dwarf from 15+ years ago. That's a compliment I should say, because that time period was my formative Warhammer years - muchos nostalgia from those times!

That Preator just looks so good as a Blood Angel wether he's all gold or rocking red. Nice job.

Added a Heavy Bolter Heavy Support Squad.

I know they're not that viable in the game but I don't play, I just paint and heavy bolters look cool and iconic.

Marvelous looking Blood Angels! The legion specific upgrades and kitbashes really make them look very different from the stock kits. 

I'm looking forwards to seeing more of these awesome angels.

The recipe for the red is basically, mephistion X 2, carabourg(?) crimson wash, mephiston again, evil sons scarlet highlight then fire dragon orange highlight

Heavy bolters are perfectly viable in the game. Especially now that they get 4 shots each. 

Your IXth look really good. I'll pass on the Sang Guard deathmask idea to my wife, she plays Blood Angels.

Finally finished my company Dread...

I added some different armour marks to my tacticals. That brings them up to 15. I plan to mix and match armour parts for the last five. (Someone is going to notice the mark four guys have mark three legs. All the forge world mark three legs I have look so thin and weedy now. I'll maybe use them for recon marines or scouts.)

 

I also made the bases a millimeter taller to compensate for the slightly larger scale of the AoD box marines.

I added some mixed armour marines to bring the tac squad up to a full twenty.

Real nice work - the leather shade you've gone for work really well with the red also. My only critique would be that they've all found a convenient piece of tactical rubble to stand on - like they're playing the Floor is Lava 40,000 - having some variation in height might be cool also, like some on the ground, one leg stepping onto the rock etc?

Slow going but I added the Spartan. Also showing the new plastic Spartan next to my older Forge World Resin model. Pretty much identical except weight and price!
