GenerationTerrorist
Hi all. Just after people's opinions/thoughts/theory really. Doesn't have to be from a competitive standpoint. Which Legion do you think has the best options and ability to utilise the Pride of the Legion Right of War? I'm pretty much sticking my my Iron Warriors and the Fury of the Ancients, using 20 of the box set Marines as an additional objective holding unit whilst the Dreads go stompy. However, I am looking at building a second army utilising the other 20 Marines in a similar way (objective holders), but making use of the Cataphractii and Spartan. It wouldn't be a massive army, but something along the lines of Praetor, Consul Herald (to give another unit of Terminators the Line rule), 2*5 or 2*10 Terminators as Compulsory Troops, a Legion-Specific set squad of 10 Terminators to run with the Praetor/Consul in the Spartan, and maybe a Terminator Command Squad. Which Legion do you think would have the best options to pull off this kind of list, from a thematic and modelling viewpoint? As mentioned, I don't really worry too much about competitive lists, more about fluff and theme. Testamentum_Veritas
Thousand Sons are always really cool. Especially lots of Terminators. Think they have a unique Rite of War that may work for you instead of PotL as well GenerationTerrorist and xxxjtmxxx 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/375231-pride-of-the-legion-who-does-it-best/#findComment-5850759 Share on other sites
SkimaskMohawk
Most legions have a terminator unit that goes well into a Spartan, so it's easier to list the ones that don't mesh so well. -Siege tyrants want to be shooting and don't get to be troops -Huscarls have deepstrike -Night Lords unique terminators have deepstrike -Crimson paladins have deepstrike -Deliverers have deepstrike So kind of vetoed those units/possibly legions, here are the legions I think have a good ability to cram terminators and elite scoring into Pride. Ultramarines. Fulmentarus get to be troops, leaving your elite slots for the scoring suzerains. They're really cheap, really durable, and really annoying to remove when you have a lot of them. Also a full ultramarine bling-army would look cool. Death guard. They love terminators. You got a couple to choose from, and thematically a terminator assault is their bread and butter. Still have to shore up their scoring though. Alpha legion. Similar to ultras, the lernaeans score, but can go in the troop slot due to being terminators. And you can steal another legions terminator unit too! Dagoth Ur
I wasn't very keen on the Lernaeans having WS4 but running them as a mainstay in a PotL list actually made them shine a lot. Line, technically BS5 shooting with volkites, FnP etc made them surprisingly decent! So Alpha Legion would be my vote. Mandragola
There are quite a lot of options here I think. Imperial Fists have a warlord trait that gives the warlord's unit +1WS - which is a huge buff for a unit of terminators. They can also have assault cannons (on veterans too), which is nice. A downside for Fists is that it doesn't combo well with their ability to bring scoring HW squads, as they can only have one of them. The Sons of Horus trick of reducing the strength of incoming attacks can be excellent to prevent instant death. Wolves can run and charge, though that's only useful with Tartaros termies, not Cataphracti. Actually a lot of Legions do this rite well. You can also look at Legions that buff the Spartan, like Iron Hands (or warriors!), Salamanders and so on. I don't think I'd worry too much about whether the Legion has special terminators. It's the "normal" ones who'll be getting Line and that's the point of this Rite really. Youll probably only start considering fancy terminators after you've filled those two compulsory slots. GenerationTerrorist
Thanks for all the responses, guys. I think I am going to make this a second Iron Warriors army, to go alongside my Dreadnought list for when I want to change things up a bit.
