So I picked up an AL contemptor from FW, and I was looking at how I am supposed to equip it. Does GW intend for us to buy a resin kit and then a whole new plastic kit for weapons? Because the resin kits dont have gun mounts in the shoulder and the new plastic kit only comes with 1 for each shoulder.

Are they releasing the contemptor weapon sprues with the minin shoulder piece seperately?

Its seems kinda frustrating for anyone trying to use their more fancy kits.

Even the new plastic kits, the mount itself is not flat like the old resin ones, its more cone shaped so its a weird compatability as well.

We can probably assume from the removal of all the resin weapons, and the announcement of the separate Leviathan weapon sprue that there is an intention to release a Contemptor weapon box in the same vein. The weapon sprue has the shoulders and articulation parts on there, which should fit straight into the resin pauldrons.

EDIT: Photo of FW shoulder articulation joint and the ones on the new plastic sprue showing the compatibility:

See thats just the thing...they announced it for the leviathan but nothing was mentioned about a seperate kit for the contemptor. Just that when it is released on its own it will have the remaining weapon options.

I did take another look at the sprue and it looks like the contemptor chassis ia all on one sprue and the second sprue is the autocannon CCW and lascannon and the shoulders. So maybe they will release upgrade kits, or when its a solo release it will have a third sprue with extra shoulder joint pieces to use with the resin kits

I'm willing to bet they'll announce a separate box of just the weapon sprues. It seems pretty unlikely they'd force Legion body buyers to get a full plastic kit just for weapons.

I expect the 3rd sprue will be the other 3 guns, another fist and a set of shoulders, maybe even a variant pauldron design with some different detailing to the base version.

I had this exact conversation ith GW last week, and that's the current solution. The FW contemptor bodies dont come with the shoulderr mount, or the round weapon hinge, which are now only found in the plastic shoulder and weapon sprue. GW said it's not possible for them to send me some of the missing bits (they formerly came packed with the weapons) and that I could use the ones from the plastic contemptor. WhenI told them that it would leave me still with a contemptor with no arms, they just apologised.

So either use the plastic contemptor ones and wait until separate sprue release, beg borrow and steal spares, or get them 3d printed.

I guess the individual that you spoke too was propably also not a liberty to say when or if they will release a seoerate weapons sprue...or maybe did not kniw themselves

Yeah, this is an unfortunate consequence of the resin shoulder pivot and 'elbow' joint being sold with each resin gun/fist as opposed to getting a set with the FW dread itself; now the FW guns are gone, so is any source of the two arm parts outside the plastic kit. You'd think they could have switched to bundling them with the FW dreads (so you could at least swap magnetised guns between the plastic and FW bodies), but sadly not.

So currently, the only way to get the shoulder+elbow joint parts, and the guns themselves is the plastic dread, leaving you with a leftover 'unarmed' plastic contemptor.

If you have access to a 3d printer or willing to pay a local company for it, designs are available, e.g. arm connectors. There are also various contemptor-like gun designs on cults3d, such as lordchammon.

You can also keep an eye out on ebay/etsy for either old forgeworld contemptor weapon arms that aren't a silly price, or for example this guy on ebay is selling prints of arm connectors and contemptor-like guns.

And presumably there will be a separate release of the plastic gun sprues. Eventually.

I dithered over getting the Alpha Legion dread and am glad I didn't take the plunge. I have a spare melta from the old Calth dreadnought for the right arm, but getting a left arm would have been a pain. I feel like Forgeworld could have kept those dreadnought arms going a little longer. They are not helping themselves pushing their customers into the world of 3d printing ... they might never come back ...

They're releasing the plastic arms separate next weekend, which you could then use on the resin dreadnought

The kit includes eight different guns and a pair of fists – and you’ll be able to pre-order the weapon frames separately, allowing you to double-up on the same weapon to assemble a specialist Dreadnought. One sprue contains an extra autocannon, bolt cannon, lascannon, and melta cannon, along with a spare fist and an extra pair of arms.
