Iron Father Ferrum
You can't have more Cultist units in an army than Marine units, and the Commune is a 0-1 choice. Ah bugger, ahh well its for funsies anyway so that will be getting house ruled away. Doesnt mean eventually I cant add some Nurgle marked Iron Warriors to the force though... abaumann
Is anybody using Warpsmiths these days? I love the new model...just got one recently. Just not sure if it's a waste of points after I paint it up. I also field a Defiler, usually in smaller ~1000 pts games. Not currently using MOP, haven't been able to get my hands on one. Relic
What legion do you play abaumann? Warpsmith is great in Iron Warriors (as you might expect), in other Legions depends on your list. If you have a vehicle(s) you really want to buff with +1 to hit and heal some wounds, he is solid. Issue is of course, HQ slots are at a premium in the book. If you like the model (and it is great), play it. Rule of cool and he is good. Same to Slave to Darkness - a cultist themed army sounds very cool! Can't imagine in casual games anyone having an issue, not like Cultist units are going to rule the world anytime soon. From a fluff perspective, a warband likely has many more mere mortals then Chaos Marines knocking about. Before the Codex came out, when the rumours were saying there'd be some more Cultist/mortal units, I was really hoping that a 'Lost and Damned' type list would be possible - I really wanted to go in that direction for the new version of my Legion of Taurus (had some of the new miniatures in a box for 3 years!); having a smaller number of Chaos Marines as the 'elite' of an army that mostly consists of mobs of Cultists and Mutants. As it is, it seems Cultists aren't really a big fixture in the 'better' Chaos armies using this Codex. Not that it'll stop me painting a bunch of Cultists when I eventually redo my Chaos army - rules change, but miniatures last forever Slave to Darkness 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/375476-whats-working-whats-not/page/2/#findComment-5861238 Share on other sites
abaumann
@RelicI play Alpha Legion, and typically have a Rhino and Defiler nearby him as I advance forward midfield. So would be nothing too crazy for him to benefit from legion-wise. But you’re right, coolness factor prevails! techsoldaten
OP here. Appreciate all the feedback. Felt like reporting in on where I'm at. Playing Black Legion, my lists mostly revolve around Abaddon, Master of Possession, Terminators, Legionnaires, Helbrutes and Venomcrawlers. I've managed to work most other units in at one point or another. Still seeking something approximating a TAAC list. We have a lot of strong AdMech and Drukhari armies in the local meta, the ranged shooting and Eldar trickery are potent. We also have Imperial Knights and a couple Tau players who have both found ways to table me. Playing CSM against these factions requires different capabilities. I have had success against Daemons, Death Guard and Grey Knights, but I also play those armies and know them very well. Just feels a little more challenging than with previous new editions. For most of my games, either I'm holding my own or getting wrecked. When I'm counting on Terminators to win in melee, they go down. When I'm counting on Abaddon tearing into something, it just falls back and retreats. sigh Khornestar 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/375476-whats-working-whats-not/page/2/#findComment-5861271 Share on other sites
