Silhouette35
Hey everyone!! My wife and I just got into Horus Heresy and are splitting the starter box up with a few additions. I was wondering if anyone had any 1000pt list for Raven Guard and Alpha Legion they'd be willing to share? (Basic is fine, as we are both basically new to the hobby!) I kit-bashed 4 sniper rifles on to some marines for a recon squad, and also bought the special weapons box. Any/all help would be appreciated. I havent played anything WH in about 15 years, and am tying myself in knots trying to get the armies built! Dont-Be-Haten
It just depends on what you and your wife want to do. Is a good source for our talks about RG in 2.0 Offers insight on the Alpha Legion in 2.0 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/375540-help-for-beginners/#findComment-5857718 Share on other sites

And they both lay claim to similar specialised tactics so are good rivals (though RG focus more on pure stealth and AL on sabotage/disruption). You also have the option of playing as Traitor RG and Loyalist AL to mix things up (and that would be a very cool matchup). With the starter box you are going to be fairly constricted but kitbashing recon squad is a great way to offer some options. Special Weapons kit too, though beware arming all your marines with special weapons as you will need some Tacticals to score objectives. As a broad brush (others can correct me if I'm miles off!), each side should have something like: 1x leader (Praetor, maybe a Vigilator quite thematic, or regular Centurion) 2x 10 Tacticals 2x 5 special weapons (be it Recon, Plasma, Flamer etc.) 5 Cataphractii (tooled as you like, some schools say specialise, personally I'd be inclined to keep some flexibility) The Spartan doesn't really fit until bigger points. The Contemptor probably does though, if you can get a hold of another one then a Contemptor either side might bring you nicely to 1000pts. LameBeard
I think this looks a great way into the game. You could think about Zone Mortalis (get started rules in White Dwarf) and leave vehicles for much later. This even lets you get away with only one tactical squad to start with, if you’ve already gone wild building special weapons. I also think the infiltrator options on these two legions means it’s less of a worry not having the very mobile troops like jump packs, jet bikes, bikes, speeders - although they all would be cool, not much in plastic yet.
