I'm wondering people's thoughts on the viability of GK army lists that rely on numbers to get the job done. The individual Grey Knight is an absolute beast and a bargain for a veteran marine with a storm bolter, force weapon, and psychic shenanigans. You can, somewhat reasonably, fit 70+ of them on the battlefield. While I don't doubt that many enemies can kill 70+ marines, those marines are hitting back rather well during this time.

Consider something like (just off the top of my head but it fits 2k):

  • Grandmaster and Bro-Captain (for auras and butt kicking)
  • 4x5 Strike Marines (obsec for objectives)
  • 3x10 Interceptors (to not be crippled by speed)
  • 2x10 Purgators (to provide better umph at range than just small arms)

There are a lot of things you can do with that. Purifiers can be used as a tougher and more psychically dangerous option to purgators. Interceptors can be thinned down to save points for other things. Librarians can be swapped in for one of the characters to add some MW shenanigans.

Either way, you're looking at a lot of elite bodes.

Thoughts on the general idea?

I played in a semi-competitive tournament at the weekend and came 5th with 2 wins (vs Thousand Sons 60:56 and Necrons 91:54) and 1 loss (vs Chaos Marines 67:85) with a 100% infantry list. I had a Grand Master, Librarian, Brotherhood Champion, Apothecary, 2 x 10 Terminators, 10 Strikes, 10 Interceptors, 10 Purgators and 4 Servitors.

I maxed Primary scoring in every game and with a bit more experience in my first match vs Chaos (it was only my second game with the new Codex because I’ve completely replaced my old army with new models and only finished painting them the night before the tournament), I might have got another win.

It’s definitely viable, not much punch at range but once you get into combat not much can stand against the number of good attacks we can put out, especially with Tide of Convergence.

Haven't had the chance to play yet. But that is good to know about Crowe. This is what I am building towards. Sieglier has been playing them on the art of war channel. I am interested to see if his lists changes at all vs harlequinns. Either way I am bitten by the GK infantry bug

Sieglier had a new list today. Thought it was interesting

Librarian

Voldus

Draigo

3x5 strike squads

10x2 Paladin squads

1 Ancient

1 5x Paladin squad

Idea is simple. cancel out auras. get those paladins in combat and buff them where you can
