Dont-Be-Haten
Hey guys, rules inquiry came up with a praetor in a squad of Crimson Paladins with shields. So the shields subtract 1 from to wound rolls in melee. If you challenge out the IC do the shields still confer the boon? Likewise if their is only 1 CP exemplar/sergeant left and they are challenged, does the shield still confer to the IC? We agreed that unless one of my units had precision attacks in melee then the shields were able to confer the bonus when there were an IC and Sergeant left without challenges, and when the sergeant or IC was challenged no benefit was conferred. But wanted to make sure we did this right. Also, -1 to wound is ment. SkimaskMohawk
The wording on the Coriolis says that models with the shield are at -1 to wound, but it's a little...trivial for most cases. Due to the nature of wounding before allocation, the shield will kick in against both normal and precision attacks. But, in your challenge scenarios, the units have been cleanly separated; the praetor is a target in of itself, and isn't bearing a shield, so the -1 wouldn't kick in.
