Brother_Angelus
With the plastic kit rereleasing this weekend I'm starting to think about loadouts for Tartaros squads and Command Squads. Specifically I'm playing Night Lords, but broader theories are also helpful. I picked up some of the power axe kits from FW, so that opens up any of the power weapon options (some requiring conversion). Lightning claws are always decent, though somewhat expensive. Bit stumped what to do about a command squad too. Thoughts? Anyone have plans for the kit? Orange Knight
If I was making a Night Lords army, I would consider running a squad of the very unique Atramentar Tartatos Terminators. They are a squad that comes with in-built deep strike and various other rules, but what makes them very interesting is the fact that you can take up to 20 of them per unit. A gigantic Terminator squad, with appropriate character support, would be very threatening and intimidating. Brother_Angelus
I was tempted to give them a try, but they seem a bit overpriced even compared to Contekar. WS4 is also kind of rough for that many points. arnesh88
I feel like Tartaros are better with weapons that aren't unwieldy. Their main weakness is having a 5+ invul, making them more likely to die to low ap weapons. So the goal should be to get whatever hits in before taking hits back. I'd stick with lightning claws or power swords/maces (or legion specific non-unwieldy weapons when applicable). You can't get thunder hammers (shame), but its one of the better places to put lightning claws due to the math increase when hitting on 3s, being hit on 5s, and maybe not wanting to risk slugging out at initiative 1 with your 5++. Night Lords don't do anything more advanced with them really. ATfM makes it harder to fish for 6s for rends/doesn't really matter with vehicles, your IC already has fear, they break bloody murder, etc... They're just a solid add-on to a praetor or sevatar to give them scoring and increase slot efficiency. I gave mine the claws because it looks cool, and they're the only terminator option that can get them at WS5 for us. 4 hours ago, Orange Knight said: If I was making a Night Lords army, I would consider running a squad of the very unique Atramentar Tartatos Terminators. Being able to be non-compulsory, non-line troops for an expensive unit is frustratingly bad; deepstrike is great, but the character that enables the previous bonus also enables deepstrike for all legion terminators (and preferred enemy when they do it). If you take sevatar and pride, they basically have no upsides over basic tartaros but still have to pay a huge premium and increased weapon upgrade costs. A big bomb of them sounds cool until you realize its 745 for 20 with power weapons and bolters; 20 tartaros are 550 lol. Hfran Morkai
@SkimaskMohawk Thunder Hammers are a go for Terminator Command Squads. I'm thinking I'd like each of mine to be kitted out differently to represent them being some of the finest Warriors in a Legion. Shame SWs can't get Frost Weapons on them (need to be IC). My current plan: Standard Bearer with Thunder Hammer Twin Lightning Claws Chainfist, Combi-Melta Power Sword, Combi-Melta Power Lance, Combi-Melta I don't think it's particularly effective but I'll enjoy modelling it up. Yea you're totally right; I was thinking of basic command squads that can't get them. Very frustrating for doing anything with jump packs or bikes, but that's a different topic.
