Are you talking about a spray booth for an airbrush, or a different type of device?

If so, I would say “No”, they are unlikely to work for priming with rattle cans - those use different chemicals and aren’t as fine a mist as what comes out of an airbrush.

Priming with rattle cans is better done outside/in a garage with the door open.

I wouldn't use spray cans indoors unless:

  • It was a garage or industrial unit with a large enough door to get suitable airflow and there wasn't anything that would be damaged by overspray
  • The space had a genuine industrial extractor set up

Outside is the way forwards I'd say.

The small vented spray booths for airbrushing aren't suitable for use with rattle cans. With an airbrush, you've got a small amount of pressure, and you're mainly worried about the paint - either dry particles, or enamel outgassing, so a relatively small extraction airflow is enough (though the really cheap chinese models can't even do that). The propellent of course being just compressed air. With a rattle can the organic propellant itself is the main problem, there's a lot more of it, and it comes out a much higher rate.

It is entirely possible to build/buy a spray booth for rattle cans - they're not uncommon in the cosplay community - but they are WAY bigger, with a much larger extractor, and also commonly used for car body shops etc.

e.g. this bad boy for £2500

The 16A extractor on this can do 4300m3/h. A reasonable small airbrush booth will do 540m3/h...

Personally, I just use a large cardboard box to contain overspray, and do it outdoors or in the garage with the big door open when it's raining.
