Having just started building a set of breachers, I went an stuck a bunch of chain bayonets on them (because chain bayonets are cool and why wouldn't you want them)

I then went and checked the rules and found that breachers can't take bayonets????

Is this just an oversight, or deliberate do you think? Would it make breachers OP?

Personally I'd love them to FAQ it so breachers could take them.

Command squads can take boarding shields and chain bayonets,  so there is precedent for having them (and I may well keep my squad as a command squad now).

Off the top of my head as I'm not at home with my books to hand, but aren't boltguns with bayonets a two-handed melee weapon, and thus precluded by the boarding shield. I know Fafnir Rann has some special rules to allow the use of two axes and his shield.

I think for the command squad they CAN take bayonets and CAN take boarding shields, but they CAN'T take them at the same time.

Bayonets are two handed, so you can't use a bolter with a bayonet and a shield (or melee weapon).

Just read the boarding shield rule and it states you can't make attacks in the assault phase with weapons with the 2 handed rule. So that's that.

Shame as I like the idea of breachers charging in with chain bayonets.

I'll leave the squad of 5 as they are, and the next 5 will be without the bayonet

Riddle me this though,  pg 283, medusan immortals with boarding shields can take bayonets or chain bayonets if they have a bolter.

So I'm back to asking, should regular breachers be able to take them?

Add to this, how does this work for the immortals currently then?

The Medusan Immortals thing has been a noted issue since the liber's leaked - if they take the bayonets, they cannot use them. It might get FaQ'd, it might not, though it was one of the first issues I remember being brought up so will hopefully be on the list.

FWIW I don’t think breachers should be able to take them. Firstly, it’s nice the regular tacticals have something semi-unique to them in terms of wargear. Secondly, the visual of someone attempting to fight one handed with one through their breaching shield seems a bit weird.

I’d expect the iron hands to get faq’d to remove the ability to take them.

That said, chain bayonets look awesome so I’d have no issue plying someone who’d modelled their breachers that way and just ignored the bayonets in game.

Whatcha mean by chain bayonets? Those are illegal around here! These? Ahhh, a rookie mistake! Clearly you've got them mixed up with, errr, *browses the codex*,  Mk XVIII Olympia-Ferrox-Da'ez Pattern Bolter Silencers. Lorewise they buzz so loud the gunshots seem silent in comparison. No effect on the Breachers though. .
