What is the consensus about using allies in 30k in tournaments? Do the majority disallow them or are they allowed? I am unsure whether to add an allied force of space wolves to my raven guard or just stick to one or the other. I intended to play casual games but I also want to have the option of taking my force to tournaments. I live in Southern Sweden by the way, although I think advice about the tournaments scene in any country is welcome.

The LVO's 30k competitive event has no restrictions and is allowing Allies.

If you aren't wanting to play a Fury of the Ancients list with Knight Allies, you need to prepare your anti-meta list to take on Iron Hands or Warriors FoAs with a Knight and 2 Armingers variants

Jesus..that sounds...'fun' haha. Luckily both armies are probably the easiest to smash 3 colours onto and call a day :P

They weren't going to do one. Due to demand though, they opened up a competitive event specifically for those individuals on Day 3. I'm just excited to do the 3 day narrative event.

Fixed misspelling, added more info

Yeah going up against lists like that sounds harsh. As I'm new to 30k and the tournament scene (although I have experience of various editions of 40k up to 7th edition) i think I will aim for a balanced approach. I don't  like to win at all costs. Its good to know I can include some wolf boys for a change in colour and flavour though. Plus i cant quite get my head around using my AOD spartan as Raven guard. It just seems to fit the rout as a varagyr taxi in my mind.

Every legion had access to every piece of armament. Just make them Terran that were in your face and heavily armored, much like the Luna Wolves.

On the tournament front, it just depends on what you want to accomplish. Tournaments shouldn't be limited like Narrative events or casual games. I've always taken that stance, I don't like tournaments, but I like to throw dice. I just know if I'm not taking an optimal list or a counter to xyz then I will not be successful regardless of the game being played.

I tend to think the opposite actually, Competitive events where you want to have a contest of skill with minimal fluff want to tune out the more obviously broken things, Narrative events where winning isnt the point but you want to potentially include obscure armies or builds shouldnt need restrictions. Well, unless you are running something set on a space hulk or something :)

But back to OP, i cant see a particularly compelling reason to ban allies, especially in a system where most allies use essentially the same army list or one seemingly designed to be weaker.

Also back to OP, I believe that the Wolves and Raven Guard where 2 of the 3 trefoil legions correct? So could use that as a bit of a fluff hook as well.

My take with building an army is stick to your theme and what you want to make, you'll (ususally) spend more time making your 3k army than playing with it, so enjoy the larger part of the time spent with it!

But one I have a theme and models/units I want to use etc, thats when I go back over it and try to tune it as much as possible while still sitting within the unit and theme/fluff parameters I set.
